My Brother DCP135C printer won't read my new cartridges

My Brother DCP135C printer was giving me the message that my black cartridge was empty and cyan, yellow, and magenta were nearly empty.

I replaced all 4 cartridges (all brand new) and my printer is not reading them at all. Instead it is still giving me the message that Black is empty, and that C,Y,M are nearly empty.

How do I solve this one?

Do a hard reset on printer to restore factory defaults.

SOURCE: Magenta printing as yellow

Well, first off, are the alignment, and nozzle check sheets looking good? If not, then work on that. If so, then we have a problem. Try creating a test sheet in Word. Make red, yellow blue & black text and see if anything else prints wrong. Get back to me!

SOURCE: Brother Printer Cannot Print in Black

This could be because of several probs: 1. The ink cart is not original and wont let the ink flow, because the valve is not open. 2. There might be air bubbles within the capillaries. 3. The ink is not genuine ink and has pigments in it. Solution: see here, too: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/faq/faq_top.htm?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=dcp110c_us Insert another ink cart. Use, if possible, the genuine ink cart from brother. Do the cleaning cycle twice. This will extract the air bubbles out of the caps after the second time. If you dont have any success the printhead is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore!

unplug maqchine from power. take all carts out. wait 5 minutes. connect machine to power. insert carts as demanded. give the right answer if machine asks if the carts are changed. machine will do some cleaning.

do you use generic ink? in that case you might have clogged the printhead with wrong ink. The ph cant be cleaned anymore.

nevertheless try this (carts should be nearly full!):
press menue then start mono (blue copy) then fourtimes arrow up. machine will be in maintenance mode. press 7 then 6 then 4. Machine will display init_all. press start mono. machine will refill tubes and
ph with fresh ink and do some cleaning. after that press 7 then 6 then 3 and start mono. machine will do a powerpurge.
press zero then 9 to do a quality test print. If it cant do the job leave maintenance by pressing 9 then 9. do the test print manually by pressing ink etc.

If you still do not see any colors the ph is clogged and cant be fixed anymore. It has to be replaced.

SOURCE: i changed my cyan ink

That definitely sounds like the cartridge isn't registering properly. I would take the cartridge back to where you bought it and ask them to exchange it with a new one. This can happen from time to time.

If the printer was new out of the box, contact the manufacturer for a replacement cartridge. You can reach Brother here

SOURCE: Colour Ink Jet Cartridges emptying during a black ink print run

Hi,
If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

Why is my dcp135c printing images in brown instead of black

Several probable causes of this.
  1. Your Black is empty and the printer is trying to approximate the Black using the other colours. Check and replace Black.
  2. Your Black printhead is blocked and all you are seeing is the other colours that are used to make the black into a full black. Check cartridge and do a printhead clean to see if this clears it. Also print off a print quality test sheet (In the Ink Management options on the printer)
  3. Another colour has been put into the Black Slot on your printer. Replace the incorrect cartridge and hope that the printhead has not been damaged by using the wrong cartridge. May need several printhead cleans to clear incorrect ink from the feed lines.
Hope this helps.

I never use any colour other than black yet I have to purcgase cyan, magneta, and yellow when my black cartridge is empty. Is it possible to overcome this problem, ? My printer isa DCP135C

You don't have to replace the coloured cartridges if you only use black. But if you print something that is not pure black then it will use the other colors. For expample, if you print on a gray scale, since this is a color printer it will use the colored cartridges to get the gray color. The colored printer will only use the black ink for pure black colours. If you just use black to print, why not use an inkjet printer that just prints black or uses black cartridge. It is available in the market.

maybe it have the ink level chip which can be resetted by removing the cartridge and oning and offing the printer for 5 times within 10 minutes coz it saves data of a cartridge upto 5 use before only.. and 6th time insert it.

Empty Ink Cartrage message when cartrage still has a lot of ink.

I'm going to provide you a solution worth many dollars now you can use your left over half filled cartidges and in future also use the cartridges to the extreme.
1. Go to menu and select manual override for toner cartridges and then only replace toner when the print quality starts to suffer. This can save you thousands of dollars over the life of this fine printer.
2. download and read this

Black ink cartridge doesn't work.

Have you tried
  1. Taking out all the cartridges
  2. Power down the power
  3. Power up the printer
  4. Open the scanner Cover
  5. Close the scanner cover
  6. Message will ask you to put the ink.
  7. Put in Black
  8. Close scanner cover
  9. It may ask you whether the Black is being changed.
  10. Open the cover.
  11. Install Cyan.
  12. Repeat step 8-10 for the rest of the 2 colours.
  13. It should resolve the Black ink empty message.
Let us know if this works.

Thank you.

Brother mfc 240c does not recognise new cartridges have been installed and gives message that no black cartridge and colors are near empty, new genuine cartridges have been installed.

this is what i did as a last resort after messing with this stupid printer all day and changing cartridges and getting a no cartridge message.
i took all of the ink cartridges out and took a pair of pliers and pulled out what i think must be the sensors. they are black plastic pieces toward the top part of the ink area. then i put the cartridges back in and i have been printing ever since. this was my last resort before i was prepared to throw in the towel so that was why i went at it with the pliers!

No ink display on brother mfc240c

First make sure that you are using Brother Cartridges, their machines are very sensitive to using generic ink. Put a brand new set of ink in the machine. Pull all the old cartridges out and put all new cartridges in. If this does not resolve the issue contact Brother, they are very good about helping their customers.
