Question about Hayward S166T Pool Filter System w1 HP PumpS166T92S ()
I have a hayward s166t filter with new head , guage, sand, everything seems good, but when i backwash the water comes out line but some water runs in the sight glass but does not swirl, also the guage is brand new and the old guage register 0 pressure registered
Does it show pressure when in "Filter" mode?
If not, then your pump is either not primed, Impeller is plugged, or there is not enough water in the pool, you are sucking air.

SOURCE: sand in my waste water
O-rings or gasket are replaced to stop leaks, so that wouldn't have helped you.
It could be one of two things; either the white PCV-like pipe in the filter tank is cracked OR some of the laterals at the very bottom of the tank, under the sand, has melted. A whole new underdrain assembly is usually $70.

SOURCE: My Hayward Swimpro Sand filter is not backwashing
Be sure it is not plumbed backwards and be sure you got a sand valve as a DE plumbs the other way.

When backwashing with this valve, it is supposed to come out the waste line. Also when in "rinse" and "waste" it will also come out the waste line. It is acting just how it is supposed to act.

SOURCE: I have a Hayward S166T sand filter. I changed out
Your best bet is to replace the whole top assembly as the plastic top probally is etched and bad.

SOURCE: My new Hayward Pool Sand Filter won't backwash.
Hey!
Mine was doing the same thing. I had the hoses switched up. I had the hose from the pump connected to the port marked RETURN (on the Hayward vari pump valve). Not good! I also had the return line hose (from pool) connected to the port marked pump. It happens! The problem is I tried EVERYTHING ELSE before I found my error. This includes a trip to Leslie's to buy a brand new multi port valve (good thing they have a return policy) AND changing out my relatively new sand in the filter AND taking apart the vertical tube and each individual flange at the bottom to clean them out. Please check your hoses FIRST if it won't backwash! By the way...I've been a pool owner for 17 years. I think my experience worked against me since I didn't recheck my work at setup.
NOTE:
It might SEEM like your filter is working because you get suction at the skimmer and water rushing thru the return line into the pool. It's not working if your lines are backwards like mine were! My water started turning green!
