This is a problem I've seen with Dell PCs, what it is doing is trying to boot from the card reader on the printer. My PC had this problem, and a Dell BIOS upgrade fixed it. It would even try to boot from USB keys or mp3 players I left in the USB slot! So I have a feeling you have the same problem I had.

If you don't feel comfortable updating the BIOS, then contact Dell and maybe they can walk you through it.

Have a used dell dimension 2400, hard drive died i replaced it, but i dont have the original os disc that came with the system, can i use my copy of vista, or find another copy

If your Dell computer had Vista installed then you can use your copy of Vista CD and you can use the product installation code that is printed on the Windows label that is attached to your Dell.
When you insert the Windows CD into your Dell and boot up your computer then select the CD as the boot device (ie 4=IDE CD).

After Windows is installed and activated then you need to install the Dell computer's device drivers.
You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Have used dell dimension 2400 hard drive died replaced it now it only goes to boot device menu or black screen with blinking cursor

You will a full blown version of whatever software you want to install. Also try using the F8 key during bootup. See if the computer will boot up into Safe Mode. You should be able to made System restore disks from there if it will get that far.

My Dell Dimension 2400 refuses to load Windows XP

Hi,
What happens?Does it hang on the loading page or does it restart itself before loading?
If it hangs on the loading page, press CTRL,ALT and DEL.This boots the system.
If it restarts itself, remove the hard disk and re-fix it again.Problem solved?
Remove the CMOS battery and the hard disk and re-fix them again.Problem solved?
If not,you may have to repair your operating system.
This how you do it:-
  • Remove your hard disk and enslave[fix it as a secondary drive] it on another machine with a good operating system.
  • Start the machine.Accept to run unnix[using two drives]
  • The machine will automatically detect your hard disk's failure on the operating system and repair the damaged files.
  • On completion and after Windows opens, turn off the machine and remove your hard disk.
  • Fix the hard disk now on your machine and start it.
Hope this helps.Thanks!

Your computer cannot find a boot-able storage device, i.e. hard disk drive, to boot from. Either your hard disk drive is defective or the OS (operating system software) is corrupted and needs to be re-installed.

I need directions on how to reinstall the hard drive on a dell dimension 2400. I basically need a system restore. I have the reinstallation Cd, just need directions. THanks Also, i know how to download...

Hello
Regrading restoration you need a bootable CD inserted in CD drive and boot from that Cd by changing the boot sequence "boot from CD", during installation it will ask for format/partition of Hard drive, do if you want, after installation of windows you need driver, get drivers from link below:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400
and install them as well,
feel free to contact for more information, good luck, do rate the solution if got help

Dell Dimension 2400 won't recognize DVD-ROM drive as Boot Device.

Enter the Bios and under System Components find the Boot priority in the Bios and move the drive to the top of the list, also you can press F12 at Start up to select it as well. :)

Power safe mode on my monitor, i have dimension 2400 series

After starting the computer start tapping F8 for advanced options, select " Last Known Good Configuration" with the keyboard and hit enter. If this does not resolve the issue than once again boot to the Advanced Options and get into safe mode.

Click on Start > All Programs > Accesories > System Tootls > System Restore and than click on next after selecting Restore Select a date which is in bold and on that day your computer should be working fine, after selecting the date click on next till the system starts the restoring. System will restart, Should work out.

Computer hangs at the Dee Logo

Look at the description for the diagnostic lights on a Dell 2400 here under "A possible expansion card failure has occurred."

If you have recently installed any card (wireless, sound, etc.), then this would be my first suspect.
