Question about Boating

Outboard boat engine shifting problems

Have an 80's model johnson/evenrude 150 hp outboard that wont go in reverse and slips in and out of forward while moving. Started doing this after 2 or 3 trips out. When atempting reverse i hear a clicking noise coming from the drive and can kind of feel it in the shifter. suggestions?

David, you need to find a manual that gives you the shift rod height.. it must be set exactly right..
Get a service manual... follow it!

35hp Johnson evinrude outboard not running at full potential

Hi, did you buy your engine used? Sounds like your gonna have to get the carb or carbs cleaned. Its possible you could have a stopped up fuel filter, or not enough spark but i am guessing its gonna be the carbs. They got some gunk in em i bet. Probably old fuel turned to gunk from setting up. I had the same problem on my 40 horse.

Shifter jumps out of forward gear on 64 9 1/2 hp Johnson motor

sound like the shift fork, or fwd gear is damaged in the lower unit.....special tools are required for this repair .....if you got them cool, if not seek a shop for further assistance.......hope this helped...GL

Ihave a 1991 70 hp Johnson outboard thats hard to start the first time but starts good after that. Seems to be flooded. Starting rpm seems to be low.

Outboard motor won't run under load

I have 1969 5hp Johnson. Starts and runs good, but will only push a 14ft row boat slow at low to medium rpm. When at higher rpm the the motor just revs up and the boat slows down to almost nothing just like it has seaweed around prop.Any help would be great.

My lowrance Elite-5X won't show speed all it's showing is 0.00 I have reset the unit completely and still no speed showing Is there a lead to plug into unit and into computer for updating the unit
