If it is simply locked, you can slide the hold/lock switch.

If it's asking for a password, and it's not 1,1,1,1 , then you will need to open iTunes and do a system Restore on the iPod - it will unlock the iPod, but it erases all of your music, so it will have to be reloaded.

I made a password for my 8gb ipod an i forgot the password and he wont let me listen to my songs
that is unfortunate there is really little you can do in the way of forgetting your password. You can temporarily unlock it, but if you cant remember it you will end up having to reset it to factory settings and lose all the data/music that is on the ipod. But you can before restoring it backup your library file. But on some generations of ipod nanos it will save the password. So lets get started.
Connect your iPod to the first computer it was synced with or the computer set as the primary one in iTunes. Open the iTunes application, then disconnect your iPod from the computer, and it should no longer be locked. If you can't unlock iPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using the iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod. If you can't remember the current combination, the only way to clear it and enter a new one is to restore the iPod software.

According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the
IPod by doing the following:
Connect your IPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one
IPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the
computer, it will no longer be locked.
If you can't unlock IPod using either [the code or connecting it to the
computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to
factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase
all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back
to your iPod.
If you want to change the primary computer that your IPod is associated
with, do this:
1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone.
All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of
your important data.
2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary
computer.
3. Open iTunes and synchronize.
Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if
you forget your combination. If you can't unlock your iPod and you don't
have access to the primary computer, your only option is to restore the
IPod, which will erase all music and data."

By unlock do you mean that it is password protected? If so you are going to have to restore your unit through itunes. This will cause you to lose all your music on your ipod, but it will take the password off. If all your music is still in itunes, you will still be able to load all your music back on. My ipod is locked
The way to unlock is to load up Itunes.  Plug you Ipod into the computer and select restore Ipod back to factory settings.
You will have to reload your music as well.
