My Samsung Syncmaster 906cw LCD turns on then goes almost black.
The screen turns on fine for about 2 seconds and then goes black. If I turn it off and on again it will do the same thing. I can faintly see the screen, but it is almost completely blacked out.
If I turn my monitor off overnight, when I turn it back on in the mornings it will be very dark and will flash like a strobelight some. Usually it will do this for anywhere from 2-10 mintues and then it will kick back to normal, but today it has stayed like this all day long.
I've tried rebooting everything, checked all connections, tried to fix the picture thru the menu. Nothing is working. This monitor is approximately 1 year old.

Sorry it is like your monitor needs service. Electrolytic condensators in power supply need to be changed. Give it to an electronic shop, it is a job for a specialist.
I had a similar problem with my LCD computer screen. I took it apart and noticed a capacitor that was raised up on the flat end and appeared to be leaking a substance. Replaced it with a similar capacitor and works fine, for three years now.
Got the same problem, happened yesterday for me, Did some research and it looks like its bad capacitors in the back, check out this page for more information... i'm taking mine to an electrician to fix today... luckily he's related and should be able to fix it on the cheap...
If you have a second monitor, you could use your computer until the monitor goes black... then plug in a replacement monitor. My guess is that one will display black too...
My gut feeling is that your VGA card is on the fritz... I'm not convinced it's your monitor. Do you have a replacement VGA card you can try? I'll bet that'll take care of the problem.
