The TV was on and just turned off automatically & could not turn it back on--no sound (except for this faint chirping/buzzing sound) and no picture(black screen). Have an older TV that son gave us to use in its place, and it works just fine, so obviously it's a problem with the TV!! Apparently, in doing some research(which I wish I would have done before purchasing this brand) I am not the first or only person with this same problem!! Thanks for any help/suggestions!!
They use an inferior brand power board. the power board you will fined it has alot of capacitors that will need replacing. in worst case you will need a replacement power board. if you replace the capacitors use 105c types and not the same brand that are on the board these capacitors are like grade F capacitors, really cheap.

It sounds like you have tried everything I have been able to find on the web......Have you Registered your TV with Polaroid yet? Because if you haven?t you can make up the few months your past on the warrantee.....I would go and Register and then call on the warrantee.....it?s a bit fishy but it works...In my opinion they should just warrantee it for you. (being so close to the end an all) ....I have had great success when I have call the manufactory directly to see what they can do for me......don?t talk to just any one ask for the manager of customer service or the manager in the warrantee department...in the very begging of your call.... here is there information if you didn?t have it already Regional Headquarters: Polaroid Corporation Corporate Headquarters 300 Baker Avenue Concord, MA 01742-2131 Phone: +1 781-386-2000 Good Luck and be assertive but not an *** on the phone.......I find that when I?m just strait up honest with them it all works out....If it doesn?t try the Registration thing?Let me know if this helped cbinny1

I first changed the 220uf capacitor with no luck. I flipped the BURN switch to on and the set has been working great for a week now. Daughter left it on for about 20 hours overnight with no problem. Anybody have an idea what those 4 tiny switches are for? I have heard these type of switches called "dip switches". They are tiny white switches in a yellow block on the lower left side of the upper circuit board. The top one was labled 40", the next one down was labled 46", the 3rd one was 4 letters "EW" something I think, and then the bottom one was labled "BURN".

I have read everything I can find on the net about this problem for Polaroid TLX 04240b TVs (most, like mine, bought from Wal-Mart on Black Friday after Thanksgiving). I thought I was on a hot lead when I changed the 220uF 450v capacitor, but I still had the same problem. I saw a short post from somewhere on the FixYa web site (sometimes I can find it again and sometimes I have trouble locating it) that said someone flipped a tiny switch on their circuit board and the problem was gone. I did the same thing and my set has been working fine. They had said their set was on for over 8 hours two days in a row when they posted. The other night my daughter left our set on over night for 20 hours and the picture still was working great. If you look through the top of the set when the picture is on you can see some white light at several locations, when the screen goes blank the white lights go out and a red LED light can be seen. If you take off the plastic cover on the back (3 screws) and then take off the metal cover (3 screws) this red LED light is on the upper circuit board in the lower left corner. Just a little to the right of the LED light is a small switch block that has 4 tiny white switches. I turned my set off and took the bottom switch (#4 and had the letters BURN by it) to the right "ON" position, turned the set back on and, so far so good. PLEASE NOTE!!! I know almost nothing about how transistor circuits work. I have no idea what the switches do or what long term effect this might have on the set. The set was only good as a paper weight before so even if this only fixes the set for a short time it was at least worth a try for me. Does anyone know what those switches are supposed to be for?

The common issue with polariod is there power supplies, Your going to have to fork out something for the repair if you not willing to buy a new TV here, A new board in this would be $175 labor another $80 or $90 tops.
