When I turn on the oven the self cleaning light flashes. The oven does not come on or heat. No codes flashing! What would cause this to happen?

I turned the oven on to set temp for baking! I noticed that the self cleaning light came on and stayed flashing. I continued to set temp for 350 and the self cleaning light continued to flash. I checked the latch and it was not in the lock position for self cleaning. I made several attempts but same thing happened. The oven light never came on nor did the oven get warm or hot. ???????

after using the self clean function on my oven the oven will not heat up and only the self clean light flashes. The only heat that comes out of the oven is when it is in self clean mode. It will not heat up in bake mode. I tried unplugging the unit but still having the same problem. I also tried running it through self clean cycle once more still with the same problem.

It sounds like you have a defective Oven control module. (TO8 Control) is the part that controls all oven functions including clean, clock, timed bake, ect. Item is easy to replace yourself.

I had the same problem. Jiggled the metal latch on the oven door several times. The clean light went off and the oven returned to normal operation (for now)

We had success by cleaning the terminals on the switch referred to by jmd_forest2. I would refer to it as a proximity switch, but it is indeed attached to the oven locking mechanism.<!-- from fixya rte -->

Try replacing the "logic switch" attached to the oven locking mechanism. I had the same problem and it worked for me

Viking VESO 530SS Oven. Self clean light flashing.

Question edited for clarity.

The whole idea of Self Clean feature is to keep the makers into steady sales of spare parts. The components can only tolerate those temperatures for a number of cycles before elements, door locks and control boards start failing. Consumers don't realize the heat involved!

between 800°F and 900°F Self-cleaning ovens bring the heat so you don't have to spend hours scrubbing. Traditional self-cleaning cycles heat the oven between 800°F and 900°F, helping turn soil and spills to a powdery ash you can then wipe away. They utilize only heat-no chemicals-and are built to withstand high temperatures. (except they aren't)
Either the door lock has failed or the control board has failed.

How do i operate the self cleaning function

Hello - Before using the self-cleaning cycle of the appliance, remove the broiler pan and any utensils stored in the appliance. Also remove any excess spillovers in the oven cavity. Allow the oven to cool before cleaning. During the self-cleaning cycle, the outside of the wall oven can become very hot to the touch.

Typically to set the controls for a self-clean the first step is to confirm that the clock shows the correct time of the day. Press CLEAN. "---" appears in the display. Press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW once. "3:00" appears in the display for a 3 hour cycle. To change to a 2 hour cycle press DOWN ARROW"2:00" appears in the display. As soon as the controls are set, the motor drive lock will begin to close automatically and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the oven door while the light is flashing (it takes about 15 seconds for the over door to lock). "CLn" will appear in the display during the Self-Clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will glow until the Self-Cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven temperature has cooled.

When the Self-Clean cycle has completed, the time of the day or "End" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow. Once the over has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. If "End" is the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press CLEAR/OFF. The time of the day will appear in the display.

If it becomes necessary to stop or interrupt a Self-Cleaning cycle, press CLEAR/OFF. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. Restart the Self-Clean cycle once all conditions have been corrected.

Turn oven on Red self cleaning light comes on

You oven latch handle is either bent or the switch that attaches to the last assembly is bad. More likely you have a bent latch. You can get to it after unplugging the range, lifting the cooktop up (3 or 4 screws under the front lip) then the panel under the cooktop has to be removed to see the latch.

Kenmore gas range--oven won't come on

My oven will not work. After pressing the desired temp on the oven, the preheat light and oven light comes on. After about 15 minutes, the oven is slightly warm and maybe an hour later the oven may or may not heat to desired temp. Kenmore gas range model #790.72851301.
