Hi, You of course have the prerogative of shifting your Windows to basic XP SP2 since the standard pre-installwed Windows in an Acer Aspire 5050-3242 is Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition. But since it is brand new and I assume recently purchase, why not simply return it for replacement of another unit, model or brand. If you feel that something is not right, then probably for a few dollars more you can get another brand/model more to your liking (test before leaving WalMart). Good luck and kind regards.

When i boot coputer warning showing keyboard not found comes. keyboard doesnot works

use a PS2/USB covert plug, most of time comes with it. This will help your PC use it as a plug and play. A newer keyboard and mouse combo I'm using right now costs me $15 at Fry's or Walmart.

The cooling fan in my Acer Aspire laptop (bought 1 year ago) stopped working. Can it be replaced or is it part of the motherboard?

As stated it can be replaced. Might be the pits in finding the replacement fan, though.

Let's take a look at an Acer Aspire 5520 series laptop, as an example,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-acer-aspire-5520-laptop/

Scroll down until you come to the third photo.

Getting to the Cooling Fan in the Acer Aspire 5050 series Notebook PC's, requires a lot more disassembly, however.

The Acer Aspire 5050-3242 Notebook PC, in the category heading, is part of the Acer Aspire 5050 series of Notebook PC's.

This is the Service Manual for the Acer Aspire 5050 series of Notebook PC's,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

Go to the second Aspire heading.
The one that begins with Aspire 1200.

Now go down to the 5th line, and scroll across to > 5050.
Left-click on 5050.

This is a PDF file.
The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

[ Although I would recommend upgrading to Adobe Reader 9, if it isn't on your computer ]

After you click on the file > 5050, you won't see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.

Most of the time the first page pops up within 10 seconds, and it requires additional time to fully download the file.

Suggest you let the file download all the way, before looking through it.
Watch the Download Progress bar.

You can save this file to your computer.
This way you can burn a copy to CD for safekeeping, and easy access anytime you wish.

You can also delete from your computer then, to save Harddrive space.
If you do not know how, and wish to, simply post in a Comment.

Acer Aspire 5050 won't boot at all

Yes, it's not the hard drive.

More than likely it's your motherboard.

There's not much you can do besides trying to boot the computer without the battery, and removing and reinstalling the memory.

Hopefully you'll get lucky!

Acer 5050

by default acer 5050 have 3 partitions
1. OS partition (C)
2. Data (D)
3. Recovery partition (hidden).

If you deleted recovery parition, you can't recover your C parition using Alt+F10. Your only option is recovery from cd/DVD recovery that you created. if you didn't create the cd/dvd, you can call acer support to buy the recovery dvd.

Acer 5050 crash problem.

It is highly unlikely its a crash......two operating systems cannot....CANNOT crash similtaneously. Its impossible! unless the hard drive you run both on is faulty BUT you wouldnt get Windows to load. Not even for a bit....you say all lights will stay if they were lit up but they some how dont stay on.........I think thats what you mean.........then you say you checked again and there were rectangles that look like a book that stopped blinking yet the power lite stayed on....Im at a lost But I dont think its a crash......only software crash it might be a hardware pronlem....
