HCL4715W Rear projection "Red" color is dim

Color is off on set. "red is dim" Just put in new PCB SUB to fix convergence, great picture, but Red is dimmed.

The other set of three dials on the focus block are only dummy dials or blanks.

The dials are located directly on the CRT, and all three CRT dials turn but there is no response or change.

Yes, this is true. But the three marked for the screen are blanks! The dials are directly on the CRT boards, and this dials do not respond.

Red is dim, and does not respond. Green and blue do not either, this is probably because they run in series with Red being the first in the series.

Is there a possibility that something on the Red CRT board went bad? And can this be fixed, cheap.

Three are for the focus adjustments and three for the screen adjustments they should be marked /

Screen adjustment,remove front bottom cove and find the focus block the screens are also on the same block,if your not sure don't try.

The problem of your tv is the convergence. Projection tv set has a 3 colors red,blue and green this 3 colors must be properly lined up to look the video normal. When this 3 colors is not properly aligned the video will produce a double image of color or like a 3d or wavy. In order to fix this problem you should adjust it in the menu program of your tv you should move any of the colors to up or down, left or right if you cannot align the 3 colors the problem is the convergence ic it must be replace. To locate the convergence ic you should remove the back cover of your tv but be sure to unplug your tv, you will see this ic attached in a large aluminum plate it has a marking of stk--- and followed by a numbers. or you could contact a service technician do do it for you and save you from stress. Wavy colors across the screen and the color has separated. ghosts on picture -four eyes ect. I can't adjust the convergence.

This is a common problem. Your convergence has gone out.

Common symptoms are...

1) 3D Video
2) Warped Video
3) Convergence menu does not adjust the red or blue correctly.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site http://www.TvRepairKits.com . They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

IF YOU HAVE DOUBLE IMAGES YOU CAN GO IN THE MENU AND TRY TO ADJUST THE CONVERGENCE, OR US THE AUTO JUST. ON SOME SETS IT IS ON THE FRONT. IF IT DOESN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM THEN IT IS CONVERGENCE. I REPAIR 2-3 A WEEK. WE DO IT IN THE HOUSE, NO NEED TO TAKE THE SET OUT. MAKE SURE THEY REPLACE BOTH CHIP'S AND THAT THEY USE ORIGINAL PARTS, THE GENERICS DON'T HOLD UP. THEY USUALLY LAST 3-5 YEARS DEPENDING ON THE USAGE OF THE SET.

The convergence board wont correct the problem. You need to replace the two Convergence ICs on the sub board STK392-040 and you will be back to normal. See my response above. That site will help you get it back to normal.

Red CRT is dim....

Yes I did. You will need to get a service manual for this TV set to trace the voltage coming from the sweep power supply. If this is a problem that is new after you replaced the convergenbce4 board, you for sure have a broken wire or connection somewhere in the set. Have seen this happen may many times after a novice repairs a TV set. Good Luck

HCL4715W Rear projection blurry

The focus controls on this set are in the front behind the bezel. I'm not sure, but, I think on this age of Samsung, the screws to the front bezel are on the back side of the set. After removing the screws from the back, the front bezel snaps off and the door behind the bezel need to be removed. Watch the wires connected to the bezel, they need to be attached in order to turn on the set. The focus controls are on a black control block (there are three of them, one for each color). Adjust each color for sharpest picture. I use words on the screen for alignment. Each CRT board has a screen control (Adjust each slowly until retrace lines appear on the screen and then back off until they disappear). You may turn off the color and make sure that the picture is black and white. If it is not, then, which ever color is dominant, back it off a bit with that screen control. Facing the set, Red is left, Green is middle and Blue is on the right. Use only one hand inside an operating television. Do not touch the board, just the controls. This concludes television alignment 101. Any questions respond to this post and I'll reply.
