USB Cable? I have a DELL Dimension 8110 PC and a DELL Photo 924 printer. They won't communicate right now. I know where to plug the wide-socketed end of my USB cable into my PC. But where does the other end go?

It could be the USB port or cable.
1. Try a different USB port on the PC; if error returns...
2. Try a new USB cable.

The problem could be because of ONE out of FIVE problems listed below. Try the steps recommended and it should fix the problem.

• Cable Issue: It could be a possible issue with the cable. Try replacing the USB cable.
• Drivers Issue: Try uninstalling the printer drivers using the utility http://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R166248.zip .Then install the drivers from the support website. Use the link: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A924. Also DO NOT forget to update your computer's chipset drivers before this.
  
• UAC issue: If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, a feature called User Access Control (UAC) would block the printer communication. Disable it, and it should work. Use the link http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm for tips on how to disable UAC.
• Print Spooler Service Error: Either the service is stopped or not started correctly. Try restarting the printer spooler services on your computer. For tips on how to restart the Print Spooler service, use the link: http://www.ehow.com/how_2319117_restart-print-spooler-xp.html
• Firewall Issue: Maybe your firewall is blocking the connection to your printer. Try allowing access to all applications related to Dell or printer or communication systems under Program Permissions in your Firewall program.

Pitch it. There does not appear to be a firmware update. That would be the only thing that would have a chance of fixing this. Otherwise, the controller board is shot. The cost of repair is more than the printer, buy a new one.

First, Make sure that the printer is properly plugged in to a working electrical outlet and that it is hooked up to the computer as indicated. There should be two separate cables running out of your Dell 924, a power cord and a USB cable that communicates with the computer. If both of these aren't plugged in, then the machine will not function properly.

If the lights on your printer aren't working then it means one of two different things:

• Printer has an internal electrical problem and needs repair or
• Printer isn't receiving power from the outlet or power cord

Check whether, are you getting power from the socket by connecting some other component..If it works check whether the Power cord is propwerly connected, try pressing the power cord once..

If not the circuit may be damaged, Which cant be repaired inhome, you have to return to DELL service center and make it repaired

I would try deleting the scanner driver and software and reinstall. then plug the usb cable from the printer to the pc.

You need a power lead to the printer and a usb lead going between the printer and the computer. The manual is available to download at http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/924/en/om_en/om_en.pdf

If you are talking about the cable that plugs into the wall socket, it shoudh have a 3 prong plug that goes to a square block that fits into your printer.

if it is a 25 pin parallel cable there should be only one place to plug it, if it is USB you can put it in ANY USB socket

connect this cable to socket, which is in left right corner of motherboard (its on the left side of the bottom pci)
