Is the fan working. Check fan. Very likely the device overheated. If fan is working the air filter might need to be cleaned. See you manual how to clean filter and reset the filter cleaning counter so that the device can work properly again.
Check the Video cable that feeds the projector, could be a broken cable or a pin bent -worst case the connector on the projector has broken. Try the VGA cable on your computer screen. The lamp does not need replaceing, the lamp emmits white light only.
Many computers don't automatically turn on the external VGA connector when you hook up the cable to another monitor. One of the function keys (often F5, but not always) will turn on the connector. Usually the key has a symbol on it that looks like a monitor screen. When you press that key it will turn the external VGA connector on or off. On some computers the sequence goes laptop screen on and external monitor off, laptop off and external on, both on. Once you have the external connector turned on your projector will work properly.

this problem is because of the following:
1) wrong bulb
2) cooling fans not working adequately
3) defective ballast
