Whenever I start up my laser printer for, a kyocera mita PF-8E, after it runs the self test, it says "install MK". What does that mean? Can I fix it? Truth be told, I kinda will have to do it myself- I'm a bit broke.

It meens that your printer has passed a certain timer count and needs a Mantenance Kit installed, in othe words "a good tune up" because it reached the recommended millage for it...
MK is maintenance kit. It is a kit of items that need to be replaced ie drums/fusers etc. Hopefully you will have a service contract which includes this item as you may well find the cost too much?
install MK means replace the maintains kit . maintains kit is belongs to drum ,developer , drive gears ..... after 250000 print it asking to replace all the things ....... this is not harmful the printer it will work fine don't worry about the install mk....
