The camera in question is about 6 months old. It has been used extensively. Two days ago, while sitting on a table in "record" mode, the camera shut down, and will not power back up ..... even after hooking up to AC or charging the battery.

Re: Canon ZR300 will not power on
Try to use the manufacturer warranty it usually is for 1 year, call the tech support and ask them where can you send it for this warranty. Pack it well and use some kind of traceable method UPS or FedEx keep copy's and names of the procedure it may take up to a month for you the get it back. Good luck!

Thank you very much for this solution posting. Really it worked. I was about to buy another one instead of fixing the problem. Because you know how the pain is, to send it factory and getting it repaired.
There is a fix for this which was posted for either the ZR 200 or 400. They call it the "Fonzie" fix. Just hit the camcorder with your fist on the side where the tape goes in (with the door closed). Hit it lightly once, try inserting the tape. Repeat this process with increasing force each time until this works.
Surprisingly, this worked for me. Obviously, there must be something loose for this type of solution to work. I actually had it working once, then it acted up again. I tried the same solution and it's working again. No problems for several days now.
just two things to do first
1- restore to factory setings from the menu and check if it is solved
2- if not just try to see does the knub is in its reguler state
if yes so you need to replace it
