I was watching a movie one night when the screen suddenly went blank and the sound also was gone. I thought one of my kids turned the power off, but when I tried to turn the power back on I noticed the power light blinking red. I can't turn the power off with the remote or on the tv, I have to pull the power cord out of the wall. there was no "popping" noise like the manual says can happen when the bulb goes out. I've contacted a sony style tech and he said it is a "circuit failure." From what i've read about other peoples problems it sounds to me like the thermal fuse. What do you think?
The little flashing light down on front of your TV will tell you the problem by the color of the light or the blinking intervals, this is the reason you can not turn it off is telling you something. The manual should have a section dedicated to this part, most likely is the bulb, the bulb is easy to access generally hold by one or tow screws you can pull it out to verify the integrity of the bulb. Then again check the LED light before anything then you go from there.

I am sorry for this. I was hopping that the blinking intervals will be able to tell you exactly what is going on, then I checked the user manual on the trouble shutting section and it has nothing to tell you what it is. Tough you may be able to squeeze this information from the tech support on Sony here is the number 1-800-222-7669, now if they can not diagnose the problem and if you bought it in the last 11 months ask them for the manufacturer's warranty, if that is not possible you might want to have a technician look at it and if possible heave him tell you the problem and if possible buy the part your self it will be cheaper. By the way here is the link where you can down load the user manual if you need it:http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-h...

There is more than one flourescent tube in your TV, It could be possible that one after the other has failed, these should usually last a few years depending on usage.
If it is not the tubes then there may be a fault in the backlight inverter although this would more likely show up as a sudden failure.
How old is your TV?

I checked the bulb and it looks fine. After I put it back in I turned the power back on. It is still doing the same thing. The power light blinks 6 times then pauses then just repeats this over and over.
