After a rain, my trunk liner is soaked and musty. I knew it was coming in on the driver's side at the back. I removed the liner and peeled back the liner on the side of the trunk. I opened the trunk, ran the hose water down that side and waited. What I found was condensation was building up underneath the weatherstripping but inside the trunk. As the condensation built up, it started running downhill to the back of the trunk, down the back across the sealed brake light and finally pooled in the back corner of the trunk. I used a ton of silicone sealant on the outside but it doesn't matter. Any suggestions?
Is it possible the trunk lid is not aligned right and not applying pressure to the gasket ? Or do you have a crack in the seam where the quarter panel and the center pillar meet up ? Or is it getting in behind the tail lamp ?
Testimonial: "No, since it happens even with the trunk open. Like I said, I opened the trunk and ran the water from the hose down the length of the trunk along the weatherstripping. After a while, you can feel the condensation building up inside the trunk underneath where the weatherstripping is. Eventually it builds up enough and starts running downhill toward the back of the trunk. Everything up top is well sealed. "

Mother nature is too slow in finding leaks. Have someone small get in the trunk with a flashligh and watch as you run a hose over everything. LET THE PERSON OUT!

When diagnosing a water leak, here's a handy tip. Check the accumulated water. If the water is dirty, look for leaks from the underside of the vehicle (floor, wheelwells, etc). If the accumulated water is clean, look for leaks from the topside of the vehicle (trunk seal, window seal, etc). To find where the water is coming from, shut yourself in the trunk with a flashlight and have an assistant run water over the trunk with a garden hose. You may have to remove some of the interior trunk trim to see exactly were the water is coming from, but chances are you'll find it. Also another common cause of water leaks are from impact damage, so check for collision damage repair. while your in there. -hope this helps.

You can actually find NOS weatherstripping for old Saturns at getsaturn parts.com. At least I was able to buy a new one for a 94 last year. It is a website for a Maryland dealer who sells at below regular cost. I have had 5 saturns and they never sold me a bad or wrong part. You could also look around on ebay, but what you would find there is another used leaky one.
