Condensation In Trunk 2001 Buick LeSabre

Hunting water leaks is a pain in the tailbone job to do. I'm assuming yours has the jack in the floor of the trunk, under the carpet.
The spare wheel well is the lowest point in the trunk so the water will collect there regardless of where the leak is. Start with the simplest tools, a flash light and the palm of your hand.
How much water is collecting and how fast does it fill up? Rain water coming up through the floor is unlikely unless the floor is damaged.
First take everything out of the trunk that wasn't in there when it came out of the factory. Take a really good look at the carpet and trunk side liners. Use the palm of your hand and feel the floor carpet for wetness. Your feeling to see if it is wet in a particular area. Using the flashlight look for darker patches as carpets often darken in color when wet. Move to the rear of the trunk and feel the liner on the back of the rear seats. Next run your hand over the side panels where the wheel arches are. This will give you clues as to where the leak is possibly coming from.
If the whole trunk carpet and liners are bone dry the leak is from under the car.
All the doors, the trunk lid and the sun roof are fitted with rubber seals to stop rain and road splashes getting inside the vehicle. Over time these perish and start to leak. Run your hand around the underside of the rubber seal the trunk lid sits on when closed. This is the most obvious place it will leak from. You can do this on each door as well because water can travel a large distance before it finds somewhere to create a puddle. A Sunroof can also leak but they tend to cause puddles in the foot well.
If you get a few dry days you can test for leaks with a hose pipe. Keep the trunk closed and make sure the inside of it is totally dry. Remove any spray nozzle from the hose so it flows at regular pressure. Carefully aim the water so it only flows over the trunk lid. Let it flow for a minute or two trying not to soak the doors at the same time. Turn off the water and leave the car alone for about 10 minutes. Wipe off any excess water on the trunk lid, open it and see if its now wet inside the trunk. Yes? the trunk seal is leaking. You can use this method for the doors and sun roof as well. Door and trunk seals are usually just a 'Push on/Pull off' fit so you can easily change them yourself.

Most trunk locks have a holding mechanism at the bottom edge of the trunk lid. Open lid, look at bottom edge. If you see a plate held in with two screws, remove screws, pry plate down to release lock cylinder.

Check in the glove box for a push button to open trunk. Also along the driver's side floor sill (between the seat and the door). Along the bottom of the dash on driver's side, check there too. My son has a '92 Lesabre, and there is no trunk release-only the key opens the trunk.

Sounds like water got to that trunk release. Pull it out, try drying it off, or replacing it if it looks damaged. maybe water is still collected at the electrical connector, or has corroded it.

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you replace the weather rubber strip of the trunk. If the rubber is worn out or not properly secured, the water tends to leak inside. Have it secured and replaced then observe how it goes.

The procedure is as follows:-- Working from the trunk:
1. locate the 2 retaining knobs (doohickeys that you fasten the trunk cargo net to) for the Hard plastic trunk liner near to and inside of the rear light assembly. Unscrew the knobs.
2. Pulling back the plastic liner, locate the 4 studs (threaded posts). 3 will be located vertically in a line, the fourth, outboard and lower. Using a 10mm wrench(small), remove 3 of the 4 nuts fastening the light assembly to the body. DO NOT remove the lowest nut of the 3 in a vertical line, as this does not fasten the light assembly. DON'T LOSE THE NUTS OR WASHERS.

Working from the rear of the car:
1. Hand pull the light assembly from the car body.
2. Remove bad lamp. Twist lamp socket and pull out of assembly. Pull lamp and replace with #3057.
Reassemble:
1. Test light prior to reassembly.
2. Ensure Gasket material for assembly and studs is intact, this keeps water/dust out and dampens movement (prevents rattling and increases the life of lamp).
3. Use Reverse instruction for reassembly. -------------- The taillight/backup light/license plate light assembly is separate from the brake light/turn signal light assembly on the Buick LeSabre. No matter what rear bulb you have to replace, you must access the trunk area to do so. Open the trunk of the Buick LeSabre.Locate 7 nuts underneath the trunk lid (3 on each end of the trunk lid and 1 in the middle). Remove each one using a nut driver.Manipulate the trunk lid at chest level and gently pull the rear taillight assembly slightly away from the trunk lid.Locate the burned out bulb sockets and then remove the bulbs. Insert the new bulbs into the socket and test by turning on the lights before reassembling.Replace the tail light assembly by aligning the studs inside the predrilled holes in the trunk lid. Refasten the 7 nuts.Remove the cargo net if applicable to replace the brake and/or turn signal light.Unscrew the plastic wingnut that the cargo net is attached to. Pull back the trunk liner.Remove the 2 plastic wingnuts under the trunk liner.Pull the brake light assembly outward from the back of the LeSabre.Locate the socket of the burned out bulb and then turn counter clockwise 1/4-inch to release it from the assembly.Remove the old bulb from the socket and replace with a new one. Mother nature is too slow in finding leaks. Have someone small get in the trunk with a flashligh and watch as you run a hose over everything. LET THE PERSON OUT!

sometimes the window weather strip isn't air tight and it could get in your door panel.
