Without knowing which model mixer you have I cannot be specific as there are 5qt models with very different motors. Parts are available and the mixer can be fixed. Doing it yourself makes it much more affordable.

This is most likely has to do with either or both the control plate and control link. If the spring which goes from the control link to the control plate is not connected, the power to the motor will not turn on properly. This is most likely the source of your problem.

You will need to confirm the model number. An H600 or L800 have a wheel to manually turn to raise and lower the bowl. The M802 and V1401 hav a belt driven bowl lift clutch, operated by a lever. When you push the lever up or down, you are engaging a small transmission between the motor and main housing. You would need to remove the top cover and see what's happenning. It may be there is something other than the proper spiral pin joining the lift lever to the clutch input shaft, giving alot of backlash and insufficient selector movement.

Have recently inherited an old Kenwood Major A707A with same problem, contacted local electrical repair man, experienced with Kenwood mixers. He is fitting a new clutch, will cost about £30. I think its worth it. Anyone out there know where I can get Instruction Manual ?
