Dropped laptop. Everything seems to work, but screen messed up

Have full screen, but over that seems to be a layer which covers half the screen. It has vertical and horizontal lines with what looks to be a crack running at 45 degrees from top left of this layer to bottom right.

    I had my laptop on my lap, and i got up to move, and it slid and fell againt the bottom of my chair, and half the screen went in weird multi colors. i see no crack on teh outside of the screen, but im guessing it ciould be cracked under. theres also a huge black stripe going down half the screen! HELP!

    Follow instructions how to remove screen, then order exact same one by Dell part number, otherwise most of other screen are not compatible and stays dark.

You didn't supply the make , model of laptop or the OS you are using? Has there been any damage? Dropped? Open Control Panel, Display adapter, Uninstall the Graphics adapter, reboot. Allow the Windows OS to apply the generic driver. post results with info.

The screen polarization has gone bad. it is not worth the trouble. if it is laptop take it to a tchnician to be replaced. They are usually extremlely pricy and cost almost as much as replacing the laptop and will probably be an upgrade as well. if it is a laptop you can always use the external monitor port and use a different monitor.

If you have done this kind of repair before, you could look on eBay for a replacement screen and price will vary. If you don't know how to perform a repair of this magnitude, you;re better off and will come out cheaper just buying another phone. If living without text doesn't bother you, no loss.

You can purchase just the display piece for replacement. It is tedious to take apart the whole laptop because the display is plugged into the motherboard at the bottom, but usually cheaper than replacing the whole computer. Instructions for replacing the display piece can be found on the manufactures website in PDF form. Displays can be also be purchased from the manufacturer but it is much cheaper to buy them from a highly rated seller on Ebay.

I dropped my laptop and now the screen is messed up.
Ack. Sounds like you might need to replace your screen (sounds pricey but is cheaper than a new laptop). You can find second hand/refurbished screens or another Aspire with a working screen being sold for parts on Ebay or here

On a side note, if you a have a PC monitor lying around, you can access your files by hooking it up to your laptop via the dvi slot. Granted, it seems a bit ghetto but its a quick fix until you get something more permanent.

I recently broke my iPhone screen and completely shattered a dell laptop a few years ago. You know all those people who are adamant about you buying proper carrying/protective cases? Screw 'em.

Failing that you can connect your laptop to an external monitor, of course you would be desk bound.
