I just bought a Garmin 340 and within two weeks while on the road the unit stopped accepting a charge through the power outlet. Then, started working off battery power. When that ran out the unit went dead. The outlet is working fine with other devices. The fuse in the power cord looks fine. What's the problem? The unit is brand new!

Common issue. Steps to troubleshoot/solve:
1. Pull off face, press reset tab.
2. If unit wont turn on or if turns off immediately, connect to home computer using mini usb on side of gps (any usb cord that fits will do). This will charge the internal gps battery, which is discharged.
3. You will not be able to see the gps charge indicator while the usb cord is plugged into the unit. To check charge level, disconnect it, turn it on, and note the large "battery" icon.
4 Do you have a dead internal battery? If the gps holds a charge from your computer usb port, you don't.
5. If you have a dead battery, Google DIY replacement. With some soldering it can done for $15 total.
6. If you don't have a dead battery, the issue is charging from the cigarette lighter socket. Your car socket may have blown a fuse (check car manual). Your charger unit may have blown a fuse (unscrew the tip, check fuse inside). Also, some car sockets don't work when the ignition is off. Test yours.
7. There is a good chance the connection of the charger wire to the gps cradle is the problem. Fiddle with that. Replacement cradles are available for the c340 at about $25.
8. If your unit is not charging from the cradle/socket, buy a 12v usb cord. Plug into socket and into usb port of the gps. This is a workaround or alternative to buying a new cradle.
9. IMPORTANT: observe the "battery" icon while driving, esp. if you have doubts about charging. Basically, if you can see the icon, you're not connected to an outside (car or computer) power source. That is, if you can see the battery-charge indication, it means your battery is currently discharging and unless you get another power source to work it will be dead in a few hours.

I had the same problem and actually had my Garmin replaced. Much to my chagrin I just learned from a Garmin customer service rep. that all you have to do is charge the Garmin through your computer (using the USB cord) for a couple of hours and the charge will hold.

The car charger is only for temporary use I was told. The computer charger is the main power source for the Garmin. Hope this helps!

I also have this problem, I replaced the battery with a new one and tried charging it through the pc. I wonder if Garmin disables the charging after a certain amount of usage.

My friend borrowed my Garmin and it shut down (presumably due to the fact it wasn't charging and it ran out of juice). They gave my friend another rent-a-car guessing it was the car's charger that wasn't working....but the garmin didn't work in the new car...they suggested it could be a fuse....so perhaps it could be the fuse and NOT the battery

Ups is not working

The battery is defective. first, you have to check the voltage of the battery if low than 12 volt need to charge. Try to charge the battery outside the unit. if this is already charge in 2 hrs then install it. check you ups if works. fyi. Battery last only for 1 year or 2 years depend on the use. Your lucky if reach higher year of use.

It won't turn on and even if i plug it into the computer or a ciagrette lighter nothing happens. it was working perfectly fine when i was using it and now i have absolutely nothing. it kept saying low...

Have you tried pressing and holding the power button for about 8 to 10 seconds? It should go on then off. Then wait a few seconds the turn it on normally. This usually resets the unit.
If this does not work try a hard reset.
Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.

Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears.

Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite data.

Once it gets going update your gps at the Garmin site.

Garmin 260 now failing to charge and shuts itself down

If the unit is only a year old? then I would suspect that the charger has a problem that has damaged your battery. Do you use an external power continuously?

Try a different charger or if you have a meter make sure the charger is putting out close to the specs on it. Try using the usb cable to charge it.

The low battery and shutting off are typical of a battery that won't/can't hold a charge. That is typical after 2-3 years plus but not one year. It can also be indicitive of the charging circuit needing to be reset. The problem is it needs to be started and run long enough for it to recognize the reset command. To do this, hold your finger on the bottom right corner of the screen while powering the unit, until it asks if you want to reset it. That might get you running.

While I would be suprised at the battery going out within a year or so it is not unheard of. You may have to replace the internal battery pack. The unit is new enough your only source is probablly going to be Garmin. They might replace the battery under warrenty or out (if you talk nice).

IPod won't charge

Firstly check if it will charge from the mains. Then as you already know how to take the back off, check your battery connector on the logic board. Is it loose at all. Sometimes, if this is a loose connection you can get juice to the iPod but not back in the battery. If this is the case, unless you're really good at fiddly soldering I would suggest a new logic board. Otherwise all I can suggest is that you've bought a **** battery.

Hi k750i,phone works perfect but won,t hold a charge for long, even with new batteries. thank you

Before you change the battery:
  1. Charge the battery fully
  2. Discharge the battery fully
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2
If the battery does not reset itself and start lasting longer then you do need to replace it.

If that does not work the phone will require repair of the leads from the charger to the battery or the battery to the phone

Clie PEG-SJ22 does not charge battery

Have you tried resetting the unit? There's a little button on the back that you can press in with a paper clip. That'll cause the unit to reset (you won't lose data) and then you might be good for charging.
