Re: Magellan explorist XL won't power up past a blue...
Sounds like you got a bad update, you might be able to download an update from magellan, and put it on your sd card then load it that way to finish the update.

Hello
I've the user manual for Magellan eXplorist. But I can't send it to you by this window, as it does not allow me to upload PDF files by it. If you send your Email address to me by Fixya Comment box, I'll send a copy of it to you by return mail. OK.
Hello, What is happening is your computers are not recognizing your unit. Means you have to update unit via the registered site for updates. Hello,
first Perform a hardware reset to return the minor settings of the GPS to the
original condition. Press the small "Reset" button on the side of the
unit for several seconds until it powers off and powers back on.
If that doesn't solve the problem, then it means you will have to perform a firmware upgrade to put the GPS back in order.
Download and install the Content Manager software available for free
from the Magellan support website. Connect your GPS to
your computer with a USB cable, and the software will automatically search for firmware updates for your GPS.
Here is support to copy and paste in your browser for Magellan.

May have gotten salt water in it and causing shorts, needs to be disassembled, cleaned and dried out carefully..... The corrosion film is almoner invisible and the small surface mount parts can suffer from small amounts.....
Error message at start-up reads: "Press ENTER to continue NAND, Press ESC to cancel". Either choice I seclect and the unit shuts-down.
"With you XL turned off press nav + power; then change the numbers in the box from 00 to 95 by using the joystick and then press the joystick itself; (ENTER), accepting what is proposed...
Either FORMAT or SCAN... LET IT RUN!
After turning the gps on again and pressing enter the NAND will be configured and your gps will become in order again. Your system will immediately start to re-set itself.
If necessary, in usb file transfer mode, reload the basemap in the directory background maps..."
The only difference is that I had to load my SD card in the unit for it to work during the FORMAT.
