Hi, having used MSI boards myself I found their website very useful.
Open your case, locate and right down your board serial number and revision number, Logon to the website [Google MSI] go to downloads. and locate the latest audio drivers for your board. This should fix the problem, if not then you have a failure on the onboard sound.
At boot up go to bios and disable onboard sound. Install a PCI sound card with drivers and that will then give you sound again.

Replace the drivers for the sound card. If this does not fix the issue, replace the speakers. Lastly, if this is a dedicated sound card, replace that as well. If this is integrated sound on the MB, then the only course is to replace the MB. GL

Hi! It's not uncommon for a new installation of Windows to render a PC mute. It's happened to me on several occassions, but do not dispair.
After one round or two of Windows Updates, your device will be detected as missing its drivers and they will be downloaded and installed for you.
This happens with generic motherboards which use less known built-in devices such as the sound card, the video card, etc. Should your motherboard be an Intel, Asus, or other popular name brand, you run less of a chance to get this problem.
Please run Windows Update a couple of times, or until you're satisfied your machine is up to date.
Good luck!
maybe vista is not recognizing the device or it is not compatible with that os. Have you tried using windows xp, there a greater chance that it would work
Please uninstall audio devices By right click my computer.> Properties> Hardware> Device manager. Download drivers from web site. install it , Will work fine.
Regards
Rafique
You probably just need to update the audio drivers for that MB to use with Vista.
And it just so happens that MSI's download page for that motherboard has only 1 updated driver for the Vista OS, and that driver update is Vista_Realtek_AC97.zip
Hope that helps, and if it does, please remember to rate this solution!
