You can use either crossover or straight cable, the 360 can cope with both

Ethernet Cable

With your Xbox 360 turned off unplug the ethernet cable from the back of your Xbox.

Xbox 360 Power Cord

Next unplug the Xbox 360 power cord from the back of the Xbox 360.

Unplug ethernet cable and power cord from the modem. Wait for about 1 minute and then plug ethernet cable back into the modem.

Now you need to plug other end of the ethernet cable into the back of the Xbox 360.

Plug the modem power cord back into your modem , wait for lights to light up on your modem (this can take up to a minute).

The last step is to plug the Xbox power cord into the back of the Xbox, turn it on and you are ready to go.

Turn off the Xbox 360 by pressing the power button on the front of the console. Afterward, shut off your modem by unplugging its power cord.

2 Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port located at the back of your Xbox 360 console. After that, insert the other end of the cable into your modem.

3 Replug the power cord into your modem to turn it back on. Once it is active, press the power button on your Xbox 360 to turn it on.

4 Navigate to "My Xbox" then "System Settings." Afterwards, select "Network Settings" then "Test Xbox LIVE Connection." You will be notified on-screen if the connection is successful.

I have a Cayman 3347w wireless router and I am trying to use one of the wired slots to connect my xbox 360 to the internet. the xbox will not connect. is this router xbox compatable?

Please try the following steps below;

To make a router connection to Xbox LIVE:

Before you connect any cables, turn off your router, modem, PC, and Xbox 360 console. (Unplug your modem from its power source to turn it off.)
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your modem and the other end to the Ethernet input port on the back of your router.
With another Ethernet cable, connect one end to one of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the other end to your PC's Ethernet port.
With the third Ethernet cable, connect one end to another of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox 360 console.
Turn on your modem, then your router, then your PC.
Make sure your PC can access the Internet. If not, you may need to configure the router for Internet access. For help configuring the router using your PC, check the instructions that came with the router.
Turn on your Xbox 360 console and sign in with your profile.
If this is the first time you've turned on your Xbox 360 console, see Create Your Gamer Profile to get started with both the Xbox 360 system and Xbox LIVE play.

If you're unable to connect to Xbox LIVE, you can try to diagnose the problem right on your console. Go to My Xbox and open System Settings, then select Network Settings (setup XBOX using Automatic Configuration DHCP), Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

In order to connect your XBOX 360 to your laptop (if the laptop is connected via dial-up), you'll need a cross-over ethernet cable. It's a special type of ethernet cable, which is typically the same price as a regular ethernet cable, but it allows two devices (in your case) to communicate with each other. Then, you'll need to configure your laptop to allow incoming connections via your Control Panel -> Internet Connections preferences.

How do you get xbox live through a phoneline straght from your computer

If were talking a common router you will have to have a broadband connection going to the box from a local provider and a good signal along with a ethernet cable that you will need to plug into the back of the router and connect to the XBOX 360 ( Note: XBOX ) does not have access to XBOX360 Live . Why isnt my xbox connecting? i plugged the cble into the rouder and then put the other cable into the xbox and its not letting me connect.

Console-to-Console Connection: Wireless Some Xbox games offer console-to-console, or system-link, play, in which two or more players (depending on the game) can wirelessly network their consoles for multiplayer use. Console-to-console wireless networks are also known as ad-hoc networks. In ad-hoc networks, a wireless adapter on one device connects directly to a wireless adapter on another device. An Internet connection isn't shared with this type of network, and the console-to-console connection is typically temporary. For console-to-console play, you need: Two Xbox 360 consoles. Two Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapters. An Xbox 360 game that supports system link play. To wirelessly connect your console to another console: Attach an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter to the back of each console as described in Use Your Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter. On each console, go to the System area to enter your network settings. (They will be the same for each console.) If all settings are correct, exit the System area. The consoles should now be wirelessly connected to each other.
