Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
My son was playing a game on the PS2, his sister walked by and tripped on the card. The PS2 console fell on the floor and now it does not appear to spin the disc. The PS2 will still turn on and enter the system configuration screen, but it does not recognize any disc being in the console.
I just looked at a friend's PS2. Same story, tripped over cord, unit fell to floor. Unit powers up and sys. config. screen comes on but the drive didn't seem to be spinning up. Opened the case and found that the shaft of the drive motor for the laser tray had popped out of it's centering retainer ( little black bushing/holder). With the top off the unit, looking at the unit from the front, on the right side in the rear corner you'll see the motor. The worm shaft (bronze colored rod) runs towards the front of the unit. Where it ends it should sit centered in a black plastic holder, if it's off to the side a little pressure will pop it back in. Put the cover back on, and power it up, you should hear the drive spinning up. If it does you should be set. Hope this helps.
