Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

3 Answers

PS2 was dropped, now disc won't spin and can't be read.

My son was playing a game on the PS2, his sister walked by and tripped on the card. The PS2 console fell on the floor and now it does not appear to spin the disc. The PS2 will still turn on and enter the system configuration screen, but it does not recognize any disc being in the console.

My ps2 was wotking perfectly, then i lost all of my games and bought one new one, it worked for a while ( about 4 months playing the same game) then when i bought new games the ps2 would not read them, the 2 days later the disks just stopped spinning ( even the game that was working perfetly..know none of my games cds or dvds work any more.. i think it is because the ps2 ia not sensing that the door is closed thats why they wont spin... it still goes to the configuration screen though.. thats just my guess but i can sure use some help

The kids aren't fessing up, all I can get from them is "it's not working, I didn't do anything to it, yada yada yada". The console turns on, but doesn't appear to recognize there is a disc in it, and there is a noise for a few seconds,as if it's trying to spin but can't. I've tried cleaning it, butting on it side.... nothing. It's less than 2 years old, I'd hate to have to buy another one already.

I just looked at a friend's PS2. Same story, tripped over cord, unit fell to floor. Unit powers up and sys. config. screen comes on but the drive didn't seem to be spinning up. Opened the case and found that the shaft of the drive motor for the laser tray had popped out of it's centering retainer ( little black bushing/holder). With the top off the unit, looking at the unit from the front, on the right side in the rear corner you'll see the motor. The worm shaft (bronze colored rod) runs towards the front of the unit. Where it ends it should sit centered in a black plastic holder, if it's off to the side a little pressure will pop it back in. Put the cover back on, and power it up, you should hear the drive spinning up. If it does you should be set. Hope this helps.

My PS2 has stopped working!!!

spindle motor went bad it sounds like. Open up the ps2 and inside of there, you'll see a ribbon for the drive, take it off of the board and then reseat it.

Now put the top back on and try the drive again. If it still doesn't spin then the drive will need to be replaced.

Playstation 2 won't play DVDs

if it's a fat PS2 and
model SCPH 30001, SCPH 35001
(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

hope this helps :D

Go to Ebay and put "PS2 Slim power adapter" in the search box on Ebay. Look for a good deal and happy bidding.

PS2 Console

This is due to a bad/ dirty laser.  There are a couple of option.  If you want to open it up you can clean the laser with 99% alcohol.  This works some of the time.  I do repair them myself.  My rate is $20 plus parts.  If I can not fix, I will mail it back at my cost.

Thanks
