I have an imac intel core 2 duo that has installed this kind of burner.Anytime i insert an empty dvd ,inmediatly takes out the disc without asking nothing.
I consider important to said that i have try this operation with clean and diferent empty dvd+r.
the recorded dvd´s(like a movie for example)are readed perfectly.
i used to burn dvd with no problems at all.
i would thank if somebody can tell what it is.

Sounds like a software problem. Go back to the original like you said it installed this kind of burner? Dont forget to uninstall it and then reinstall see what happens then. Might be a virus lurking..... and activated the problem of what you have?. Im not saying you did but some people try to copy DVD and they have a safety tab on them to stop this and some clever people linger a Virus for such crime.

Try inserting the master (system) disc that came with it and hold down the "C" key while booting. If it comes on with the OS X installer, try disk utility to reset permissions, if that fails to solve it, start again and this time when you get the install disc up get to options and do archive and install. If that has no effect, get out your Apple Care ( you do have it don't you?) and take /send it to Apple.
1. Find a program Pazifist , YOU HAVE 10 FREE USES.
2. Put Your installation OSX disc on drive
3. Extract .kext files onto your HDD, you'll find it inside Your Install DVD content with pazifist.
4. Find KextHelper
5. Install AppleHDA.kext with kext helper.
