Hi, i bought my TZ1 camera about an year ago and it worked perfectly fine till now, i took this weekend some pictures during rain.. i tried to protect it from water.. but i think some drops may have gotten inside because now i can turn it on/off but only the left and right arrow are working and the dial, all the other buttons (zoom, take picture button, main menu, erase picture) are not responding when being pressed. When i enter the SCN1 / SCN2 mode using the dial, camera acts like the up arrow is being pressed continuously so the cursor keeps moving up.
Had exactly this behavior after a salt water/humidity infiltration. (the buttons not working, the "arrow down" issue, unable to take photos). Since after 1 week of drying the camera was not working any better... and it was going to the trash can, i decided to open it.
I found somewhere the technician maintenance manual for the TZ1, and opened the case, following exactly the screw order to access the back panel, then cleaned the panel contacts with pure alcohol. Maybe the cleaning up didn't do anything and the operation of opening/cleaning the camera shorted something and produced a big "reset" in the electronics.
anyway, works fine now. all weird behaviors disappeared. no need for a new camera :-)

Hi,
I just had the exact same problem with my TZ1. I sent it to DK Audio Visual Services in UK. They opened it and cleaned the Circuit Board. Now everything works fine. The damage? 75£ or something lie 150$ That is not so bad considering that the new TZ5 is sold at 400$ and more...
Cheers.

You may want to check with a guy in South Carolina that has a lot of used parts, etc for the TZ1. I think his email is [email protected]

hey
Exact same problem here. Any solutions that don't involve dismantling the camera?
Cheers,
Dominic
