I own a Coby dvd 514 player which seems to work fine. But using the remote is a mystery! Not all keys (buttons ) on the remote seem to work. For example, basic functions such as "power" , "open/close", "set up", "play", "stop", "skip forward/back" etc. all seem to work ok. But pressing numbers, "clear", "program", "title" and many of the other keys accomplishes nothing! I am trying to enter the specific code which will enable the machine to become region free. Why won't the remote allow me to do these certain things?
Thank you for your help! ssky1
BAD NEWS.....I READ THIS FROM THE COBY PRODUCTS WEBSITE: COBYUSA.COM.....
What is the code to program my Universal remote with my Coby DVD player?
There is no code to program our DVD players with your Universal remote, you need to use the remote that came with the player.

Quisas. Only if the control frequencies for both units are identical. Since you are dealing with same manufacturer you have a better chance of it working than if you were using two units from different manufacturers.
There have been a lot of problems with Coby DVD or blu-ray players on this site. If the remote wont pick it up there should be some way to just go through every code on the remote. For example on my Verizon remote you just press and hold the power button and the button on the remote for your type of device until it blinks the just press channel up and down until it can turn it on/off.
disc is stuck, remove cover screws and carefully remove the disc, do not force the unit, once the disc is out use the remote to close the unit, then use remote to open and use a different disc press play and hopefully it will work, try to avoid not using the remote for all functions, including open-close. do not push tray in manually.

Traditionally, universal remotes do not work with COBY dvd players. The fact that you've found one that works at all is surprising. There isn't a true solution to your problem, however, because Philips created the coding for that remote without any input from COBY. The only thing you can try is a different COBY code if there is one in the code section of the book that came with your Philips remote.
While this solution doesn't "fix" your problem, I hope that by giving you the facts, I've enabled you to make an informed decision as to what to do next.
Try these two. they seem like they'll work. Their both for this unit.
