Hi, I did a Google on your error 437 and it would seem that this problem pops up only if: 1. using SYMANTEC (Ghost); or 2. using Original Toshiba Restore Disc. where possibly: a. the restoration procedure needs to write a log file somewhere (A:?) which does not exist and therefore waits; b. the restore disc is probably corrupted; and/or c. the Ghost image is corrupted. A few things you can try: * On another computer, check the integrity of your recovery disc; * Get hold of another Windows installer and do a complete, clean, fresh install (you will have to use your original Win numbers @ the bottom of your laptop). You will only need the recovery disc for your hardware drivers; or * Call Toshiba Support and get assistance. I was made to understand that they provide replacement Recovery Disc (>50USD). Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Error 437

It usually means "cannot read file" or something along those lines. You can try cleaning the disk, or making a copy with another machine.

If not you will have to find another recovery disk or a retail version of the Windows you are trying to install, which I suspect is XP.

Im trying to copy a recovery cd and tranfer it to a notebook

this depends on the configuration of your laptop and you should have allready instaled the same application(program) like ghost, netbackup, so on because if you dont have the same configuration it will not work i mean you can copy but it will give you an error when you want to restore it.
My advice is to make a fresh instal on your laptop or if the O.S. is working fine then simply make a back-up of it then you can restore the O.S.

If you will go into ... all programs - accessories - system you will find a system restore feature. Click on it to run. Restore your computer to a date that predated the unfortunate deletion.

Let me know what happens ...

try installing from copied version could work

else:
copy whole installation cd into sepearate folder and run installation from harddisk.

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
