Thought the adapter was something I had installed myself, so when couldn't find out anything about it, I took the rash step of un-installing it. according to information located AFTER I uninstalled it, it's the Microsoft ISATAP device Inter Site Automatic Tunnelling Address Adress Protocol, used to help enterprises transition to anIPv6 infrastructure, and encapsulates IPv6 traffic over an IPv4 infrastructure. since I'm new to this and also the net, I have no idea what to do next. thought I'd be able to find it and install it again, but I can't. Can someone help me please? I have an acer aspire 4710z note book . The wrong product is listed below in the product window as I couln't find the right one. Sorry.
Before you go screwing areound with it - read this. Always check with microsoft before these morons.

If you're not an enterprise in the midst of transitioning to an IPv6 infrastructure, it's not necessary (and arguably not desirable) to re-enable IPv6. I want to ask what the original issue is/was that prompted your removing it and whether or not you're experiencing an issue now that you have removed it.

3. Still in Device Manager, click Action and select Add legacy hardware.
4. Click next, and select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced), click next.
5. Select Network Adapters and click next.
6. Select Microsoft in left panel and Microsoft ISATAP Adapter in the right panel.
7. Click next and finish the remaining wizard.
Step2:
The ISATAP is related to Internet Protocol 6.
Please check if IPv6[Internet Protocol version] is enabled on your computer to obtain an IPv6 address.
however this driver only pertains to ipv6, so your internet adapter should still function properly. if it is, you can do this:
Disable but leave ISATAP in the hardware list and go to your manufacturers Website
and check for Post SP1 Driver updates for your computers Chipset.

Re- uninatalled ISATAP adaptor. In the last shower of updates, another ISATAP attached itself to my tree. I was able to right click on this, choose update driver software, choose browse my computer, choose let me pick from list, and it came up with an even better model, so I installed it!! Re IPv6 - (6to4),found some really good info in technet(type in IPv6, look at links) updated 6th Sept. Would appear that my Vista actually comes with that as default, and in fact checks this before IPv4. Not only required for businesses, but actually needed for search, also something to do with gaming and being on the same screen as the other person! Re video card being faulty, daughter sent me large selection of pictures - which it played perfectly as a slide show. Would appear there is only something wrong with the little practice show I did, and that my comp just isn't specific when reporting the prob! will try again and see how I get on. Thanks for all your suggestions, thought you might be interested how I got on.
my acer does not start the isotap
