GE Front load washer: We got a string caught in door and did not notice it until is would not spin out. Tried to cancel the load, but cannot unlock the door to remove the string. This is a catch 22.
Manual lock release is located inside front panel. remove lower kick panel and reach up on latch side and feel for plastic tab hanging from lock asm. pull down.

it sounds like a clogged filter
Please remove the filter on the side of the machine or the front.
Make sure you have towels handy.
Clear the filter out. If your pump cant empty the machine out you will get these problems
Make sure waterline is not obstructed
sounds like there is a pumping/blockage problem. check the filter and all drain hoses/outlets. if all clear the pump may be faulty. is the drum turning at all?
I just had the same type of problem and fixed it. The door switch under the lid is not working properly. Mine wasn't working because some lint, etc. got caught around the switch wiring and as the agitator used to spin, it spun a knot around these wires. Over time, this knot started to pull on the wires and one of the wires got disconnected. So, for the time being, I "jumpered" the switch out and can operate that way. BUT, THE SPIN CYCLE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK UNTIL YOU SHUT IT OFF. IT WILL NOT SHUT OFF BY ITSELF (AUTOMATICALLY). ALSO, BE VERY CAREFUL. THE DOOR SWITCH NOW DOESN'T WORK UNTIL YOU WIRE IT BACK IN. THEREFORE, THE SPIN CYCLE WILL CONTINUE UNTIL YOU SHUT IT OFF YOURSELF (NO DOOR SWITCH IN OTHERWORDS).
It sound like a lid switch issue.
If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch.
Look that the switch is not broken or loose.
If all is fine, you should replace the switch.
Good luck!
