There appears to be a problem with the printer carriage parking station on my Epson Stylus C84 printer which is causing this problem and I wonder if there is a solution. When I turn on the printer, the cartridge holder moves to the left then back to the right and then stops. It does not go through the head cleaning process as it should do and once it has parked up, the paper and ink warning lights start to flash together and the power light goes out. The black ink cartridge needs replacing but this cannot be done as the flashing lights have taken control. I would be prepared to open up the printer to rectify the problem if necessary as the cost of paying for a repair would be uneconomic. Any ideas?
I have solved the problem, its a dodgey chip on a printer cartridge.
Cyan was the last cartridge i changed, so i guessed that was the one that was causing the problem.
Turn your printer on, when the printer carriage is returning - manually stop it from disappearing underneath the housing (normal stop point for changing the ink). Either replace all the ink, or do a process of elimination by just putting 1 cartridge in at a time and turning your printer off and on.
I hope that solves your problem.
The ink cartridge needs the cartridges put back in. one will be out of sink
No body wants to take it to repairs, we all hate spending money if it can be avoideded. Do't fret. First, i would bet you have a paper jam that you have missed. This would stop the carriage and head cleaning. Open up the cover as if replacing ink. Get a torch and really thoroughly check for tiny paper jams or ujo's(unidentified jamming objects)check where paper goes too. Now close cover turn off, unplug, all cables, replug, turn on, try printing now. Post back if no good. Cheers lilacgerry

Thanks everyone for trying to help. Somehow and I don't know why, the printer corrected itself without my doing anything to it. However, since then the lights have started flashing again. I have another printer which I am using now but I will let an Epson registered repairer have a look at it. If it is not an economical repair then I will ditch the printer but you never know it might be something simple. Thanks again for the suggestions.
Thanks to everyone who suggested solutions. The problem seemed to cure itself without intervention on my part but it has since returned. I have another printer which I am using now but will take the faulty one to a recognised Epson repairer for an opinion. If it is economical I will have it fixed but if not I will ditch the beast.
Many thanks again.
I have same problem . Red lights keepflashing and nothing works cannot remove ink cartrages. [email protected]
When I turn on the printer, the cartridge cart (for lack of a better term) moves all the way to the left of the printer, smacks the edge and then moves back to it's original position. The red lights then begin flashing, and everything shuts down. Any ideas?Â
I have the same problem. I went through the little exercise on Epson's website and their conclusion was that I had a hardware problem. They helpfully emailed a list of service providers with the caveat that service was expensive and I might consider buying a new printer. Gee, thanks.
I'm now websurfing to see if the C84 is still available so I can use the two sets of ink cartridges I still have.
It's frustrating, but until the meltdown, this was a nifty little printer.
