Question about Hoover U8171-900 / U8172-900 / U8173-900 / U8174-900 Savvy Bagless Upright Vacuum
When I turn on my Savvy U8172-900 upright vacuum, there is suction, but the brush will not turn and the lights will not come on. I have cleaned the canister and removed any dirt from inside the vacuum.
The problm is under the top cover of the base, there are some screws on the botton also remove the self adhiesive emblem on the top and remove the screw then the top will come off.ithink what you will find is a burnt circuit board that sets right above the motor

call all-type vacuum and janitorial supply they can get it.the part cost $18.49. 314-275-8006
asa your facing the front of the vacuum the activation switch is on your left side back by the wheel.the switch is mounted to the base and when you lean the upright back the switch closes and sends power to the light and the brush roller motor.tip the upright back and you will see it on the left side.its just a small prong so its easy to miss good luck.let me know if yu found it

I am going through the same problem right now!!! I ordered and replaced the main switch (it comes all together, switch and new handle). I also replaced the small circuit board under the top cover of the base (because that was noticably burned out.
I plugged it in and started vacuuming and the circuit board FRIED OUT AGAIN! The sweeper motor worked and then stopped again because of the circuit board. I don't want to dump any more money in this than I have to...............NEED A SOLUTION without taking it to a vacuum cleaner place. HELP!

This site has the parts schematic for the hoover savvy. You can try to do searches on the internet and find the parts by there numbers.
I am now agreeing with solution number one in this inquiry. I "bench tested" my motor and it certainly did not turn like it should. So I am guessing that the motor was shorting out the circuit board and fried it. Now I am either going to look for a new/used motor and circuit board or just going to buy another vacuum all together.

It's not the switch that is breaking on these models, it's the circuit board. If you take the lower brush assembly apart, you will see that your circuit board is fried. I call Hoover, and this is a part they do not sell as the get it third party, and do not want the liability.

If its not the belt or agitator it could be that the motor burnt out (this is what might be wrong with mine because everything else seams to be fine when checked with a multimeter). The upper switch assy. is part #48663238 $27.49 @ searspartsdirect.com the lower switch in the foot assy. area (by belt) is part #91001026 $6.49. Sears also gives parts list with schematics.

Check the belt. Also remember the power brush will stop when the handle is lifted to the upright position.

I have the same problem. Relative new vacuumm. brush just stopped rolling. Checked belt and cleaned rollers...still won't switch the rollers on when handle is lowered. Seems like some activations switch may not be working when handle is lowered. But I can't find any information on how the activation switch works or is located.
The problem seems to be the contact points on the switch. Does anyone know where to find the part number for the switch assembly?
is there any way to bypass the little circuit board that controls the base motor and the light?
