The camera defaults into standby mode when you slide it into 'camera' mode. To record, we have always simple pressed the start/stop button and it would come out of standby mode and start recording (and we would press again to put back into standby mode.) Now, we must press and hold the start stop button to record - if our thumb slip off the button, the camera enters standby mode.
We've tried everything we can think of including taking the battery out, etc. and still it doesn't work. Camera performs fine, otherwise.

Wow my friend do you need Ghost Busters? er no this is mostly a case of the main switch being on lock, or the main IC going down on the panel in the cameras brain area, check the locks first, if it is the chip you will need to call your Sony repair man (He will love you) with summer coming he will be able to go on longer holiday, because that wont be a cheap mend sadly. Number for help then is 01256 828828, now what you will do for cash for your holiday I simply do not know. Take care, hope it gets sorted out okay?
i know exactly whats wrong! the same thing happend to me.
1. turn off the gl1
2.look at the record button with the lock and standby switch
3.flip the switch all the way to standby because it might be stuck in the middle
4. turn on your camera
There is a simple solution to that... You see under the 'card-tape' switch? There's the red button for recording... attached to that button the is a switch that says 'tandby or lock'.... if you have it in 'lock' it will not let you go to record mode, you have to change it back to 'standby' and that should solve your problem.... Anymore question just e-mail me at [email protected] and I was wondering if you had a copy of the installation CD I can buy or have.... or maybe you could tell me where to get it? Thanks.
