Venturer dvd problem

Hi I have a venturer portable dvd player pvs166w. I loaned it to someone who tried to change the region to region free and when I got it back it does not except discs. I loads for quite a while then display 'invalid disc'. Is it faulty or can it be changed. I have looked up on the net and changed it to region 2 but it still comes up with same error.

I have this dvd player for +/- 10 months now, I have never made changes to the region formatting but recently it started displaying "wrong region" when loading new discs purchased/hired with no. "2" region code. It still plays other discs with no. "2" pal region codes as well as "all" region code discs, can this problem be solved?

    Regards

This brand suffers badly from no valid disc etc. I have two units and both went faulty, I returned them last year to Venturer Canada and they were repaired for 45USD each. Guess what - faulty again. I have just added an in car Media HDD (put your films on a hard drive, no more changing DVD's mid journey). The screens and sound generally are fine but the reading of discs - hit and miss at best. Look on ebay for a "Media Hard Drive 2.5"

You can sometimes find discs on the internet for failry cheap that changes the region of the disc before the disc loads. So you might try and find a "region changer disc" on the net. Otherwise, lots of times, once a players region has been changed more than once or twice it will not allow another. If you have already changed it back to region 2 and it is still not working, you might have a bad dvd player now. Hate to be the barer of bad news.

HOW TO CHANGE THE VENTURER PVS 1371 PORTABLE DVD PLAYER TO REGION FREE

  • Press the OPEN button and keep the tray open
  • Press code 3597
You will now be in a hidden menu system
  • Navigate manu to select Region Code and select Region 9
  • Press Enter
    Press Menu to Exit
  • Confirm Region change by pressing ANGLE then DISPLAY (still with tray open) and you will see a long string of letters and numbers ending with R9. (if successful).
  • Power off.
The "venturer" pvs 1371 is marketed under several brand names in different chain stores, not surprising that it was hard to find, it is also 'durabrand' 'pacific' 'Lennox' 'Alco' 'funai' 'Emerson' 'Sylvania' 'Symphonic' 'Orion' 'Maxell' 'Resonance' 'Initial technologies' in various incarnations, and not all the manufactuer's rebranded items are available in each brand, and not all of each brand are from the same manufacturer
