Error message "no cartridge" won't go away on my brother mfc 420cn printer

I can't get a new cartridge today, and I have to finish printing this document. the brother site says that in order for the message to go away, I have to replace cartridge, even though there is still ink in it. "What a waste"!!! I have some ink refillers, but they suggest not doing that, so do you know how I get the message away, so that I can continue printing?

Sorry i couldn't help on the day you nedded it. Do not be afraid to refill, it's easy once you have a go, all instructions come with the refill kits, and they instuct on your specific printer too. Follow it to the T and you can refil one colour or all, and no waste. Once refilled, replace it, reset ink levels, and try printing again. Good luck.

There is good reasons they don't let you run it out. One, it will dry out and block the printer head. Two, a soon as the head runs dry, it is wrecked anyway. Either way, you would be up for another big bill. Try leaving it turned on while you replace the cartridge, when you close the cover it has to ask you if you changed "whatever colour" cartridge?. You must say yes here to reset ink counter. Sometimes it takes a few goes. Refilling can be a hit and miss affair untill you get a lot of practise! Who needs that. Refilled cartridges are available cheap. Buy a set and just change them one at a time as it complains about them. To cut down on usage, shut the printer down properly at night. If you just unplug it, it cannot cap the cartridges and your ink will dip out.

Brother MFC 420CN is not printing at all. It seems to not be recognizing the printer cartridges. How do I fix?

Hi,
Here are the simple steps that can help you resolve the issue.
If your saying that the printer doesn't recognize the ink, try to remove and return the Ink cartridges. Then restart the computer. If still the same try to get the exact error messages in the LCD panel of the printer. If still the same try a different ink cartridge. And if the problem persist contact Brother support as it might be a hardware failure.
Hope this will help you resolve your issue.
thank you for choosing fixya

Black ink on my Brother MFC-420CN is faint and streaky

You said you replaced the cartridges. Were they Genuine Brothers' Cartridges?

My Brother MFC-240C, does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also I had with Brother's was problem with Color. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, or Blue Green, etc. The Generic Cartridges, also printed lines thru the words. That's what the Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges.

Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY, or Take them to have them filled.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for the PRINTERS.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

MFC 420 CN says blue is empty--cartridge brand new

Alright so here is the issue. When you installed the new cartridge it should have asked you if this was a new cartridge or used and to press 1 or 2 depending on your answer. This tells the printer to reset the levels. Try taking all the cartridges out and turning the printer off/on with them still removed . Then reinstall them one by one answering the used or new question when asked. Also to take into consideration is that print cartridges have a use by date. If it is not used by the recommended date then it may read as a used cartridge or not at all. Verify this date on the packaging if still available. All else fails buy another cartridge.

"no catridge" not true

Drill a 2 - 3 mm hole into the brother label upon the carts. Refill the cart which the printers display shows EMPTY. For color C/Y/M refill a 12ml and for black a 20ml ink. Use only dye ink! See pictures how to do that: http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/brother.html#LC-900 Refillen
