Writer will read but not burn

Hey everyone i have an issue, my writer will read discs without a problem but when i try to burn a cd/dvd it: 1. reads about every 3rd disc. other than that it says the cds are corrupted. 2. when i get a cd that it takes and press burn, it acts as if it is burning the cd but no progress is made, the red burning light doesn't come on, and after about 5 minutes it stops burning. the burning software that i have been using is nero 6.0 on windows XP and i've had this drive for about 2 years and no problems, this just started happening a couple of weeks ago.

Can you remove the burning software and try to burn by dragging files using the built in windows xp imapi? Check the event viewer for any system events around the time when you are having problems. Also try following these instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060 If you have another pc you can try the burner with, you would be able to rule out software issues.

hey, if its reading dvd then it can read cds, possible reason is if the cd that your trying to read is burn in a format such as udf or etc. you have to install udf reader first, try to install software udf reader. try this link http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/ hope it work.

My lite-on DVD writer is not reading any dvd's as well not writing any DVD's while it is good for CD's..... What is the problem?? How can i correct my DVD writer

Hi Please try and use a different brand of DVD discs. DVD disc quality is sometimes an issue with lite-on drives Also check that you have updated drivers and your media burning software is installed correctly. Again if your using NERO this can be a problem. Try using any other burning software One other thing to try when recording DVDs set the recording speed to lowest Many Thanks Andy

Dvd burner not detected

Sorry, but that model is not a DVD writer. It can only write and rewrite CD's. It can only read DVD's.

DVD writer not working

Let's make sure that Nero is not causing the problem. Try this:
-Insert a blank CD or DVD
-Find a file that you want to burn to disc
-Right-Click on said file and select Send To --> DVD-RW Drive (D:) (or whatever your recordable drive is labeled)
-Open My Computer, double click on your recordable drive
- You should see your file ready to be burned to disc
- In the left-hand panel, you should see a link that says "Burn these files to disc" or something similar - click this link and see what happens

If this process works and properly burns a disc, your issue is not with your drive but with Nero. If this process does NOT work, then you may need to reinstall drivers for your DVD writer or replace the drive if it is faulty.

Cannot backup files to a cd/dvd

we may need more details but you can try this for now

1. are you sure you have a cd writer or a dvd writer (writer = burner)--- check the front edge of your cd/dvd unit and look for words like "writer" "burner" or writeable next to the word dvd or compact disc... keep in mind not all cd/dvd writer can write (burn) cd or dvds, some may burn cd but not dvds.

2. is your cd/dvd unit compatible with the media (cd or dvd blank disk) you are trying to use.. depending your cd/dvd especifications your dvd/cd drive is compatible with certain types of cd or dvds that are writeable.

3. is the cd/dvd a writeable cd/dvd and is compatible with your cd/dvd drive? for instance.. if you are using a blank dvd and your cd/dvd drive only burn cd/s and read dvd and cd you won't be able to write to the blank dvd.

4. are you trying to burn a dvd in a corporate computer.?? as a user (not an administrator) of your corporate computer you may not have priviledges that will allow them to burn dvd/cd's even you your drive and your media are compatible.

example nero...........

and sometimes it sensitive to some cd/dvd
what disc have you try to put it? cd or dvd?
please make sure your disc writer support dvd burning.........

does it able to read any disc?

LG DVD writer problem

You should be using the software "NERO" to burn discs.Goto>start>all program>Nero>Data>NeroExpress

Here you clearly see the two types to burn disc "data cd" and "Data dvd".

Dvd player has trouble reading the discs this dvd writer burns

Go to yahoo and do a search for a firmware update putting in the model number of your recorder or visit manufacturer's website see if they have any firmware update available.
