Question about Sony Handycam DCR-SR100 Camcorder

1 Answer

Images on the SOny DCR SR 100 HDD camcorder show as boxes.

I plugged in the USB from the Camcorder to the computer. Selected "open the folder to view the files". Selected all the movie and images folders and copied them on to the computer. My problem: The movies playback on the camcorder but not on the computer. Only few images got copied on to the computer. And when I checked my camcorder, all the images, except the one that got copied, rest of them are grey boxes. I can;t see the bulk of the images. Please help. TGhanks

Sounds liek you need a codec to view them (a driver for video files) I'd suggest: www.xvid.org or www.divx.com

as a suggestion, try downloading picasa from google.
it will let you import everything, and will recognize what is valid images and what are not.
it not a solution, but may help

There is a tutorial for transferring video from tyhis camera to a computer on the Sony website. Unfortunately, you do not say what kind of computer (PC or Mac) or operating system you have, and you have to specify this on the website to get the right instructions.

The instructions for a Windows computer are as follows:

Movie player applications must support mpeg 2 playback to open these files properly. Refer to the software manufacturer for additional information and available updates.
  1. Turn on the computer.
  2. Make sure the camcorder is turned off.
  3. Connect the camcorder to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
  4. Plug the AC power adapter into an electrical wall outlet and then connect it to the camcorder.
  5. Open the LCD screen on the camcorder.
  6. Turn on the camcorder.
  7. The USB SELECT screen will be displayed on the LCD; touch the HDD icon.
  8. Open the My Computer window on the computer.
  9. In the My Computer window, double-click the icon that represents the camcorder and then navigate through the folder structure to locate the video you want to transfer. Note: The camcorder will be listed in the My Computer window as an additional hard drive.
  10. Click to select the video or image files you want to transfer. Note: If your are using a High Definition Handycam® Camcorder, Sony recommends copying and pasting the AVCHD folder to the hard drive of the computer before accessing its contents.
  11. Type CTRL+C to copy the files.
  12. Click on the computer folder to which you want to copy the video or still image files.
  13. Type CTRL+V to paste the file into the computer folder.

Transfer media from my camera to my computer manually (Using Windows)
1. Use the USB cable that came with your camera to connect your camera to your computer.
2. MSDC appears on the LCD.
3. A window appears with a list of options, select "Open folder to view files" and click OK.
4. Open the DCIM folder and the folder inside to view the media files.
5. Select the media and copy the files from this folder into your computer. Optionally, select the files and choose Copy from the Edit menu. Then select a folder and choose Paste from the Edit menu.
6. We recommend that you copy the images into the Pictures/My Pictures folder and the videos into the Videos/My Videos folder.
7. Do not disconnect the cable during transfer. Doing so will cancel the transfer of any files on their way to your computer.

This camera does not need specific drivers from Vivitar (driver=instructions for hardward like a camera)
If you miss the old program you can probably download from the vivitar site their "Vivitar Experience Image Manager". If you're having a problem with codecs (the information your computer needs to decode video formats so you can watch them) you can get all the latest codecs by going to google and typing in "download matroska pack" and download the matroska codec pack.

Lost my disc and I have a new computer and I can't down load my pics.

You can also transfer images from your Camera to a computer without using any Software. Follow the very simple steps that I'm mentioning here next.
Connect the camera to a computer using the supplied USB cable. Once the computer recognizes the camera, the camera icon should appear in the computer. Now, further procedure completely depends on the Operating System that is installed in your Computer. If you're using Windows Operating system, then the camera icon will appear in the "My computer" window or if you're using Mac then you can view the camera icon on the Desktop.
Next, what you've to do is to double click on the Camera icon to view all the files and folders. Next, locate the folder that stores images. Usually the name of the folder that stores images starts with dsc... So, open the image folder and use the mouse and keyboard to select all the images.

In windows, use ctrl + A Keys combination to select all the files, ctrl+C to copy all the selected files. Next, navigate to the location on the computer where you'd like to save all your images. Once you've selected the location on the hard drive, press the ctrl+V Keys combination. This will paste all the copied items.

Unable to Read/upload photos from my Camcorder to PC

Your computer should be reading your connected camcorder as an additional drive or hard drive (not folder) when connected. Here are some tips to make this easier for you (Make sure your camcorder is on movies not pictures when you do this):

Steps:

1. Connect you usb to you computer and camcorder
2. Camcorder ask do you want to playback, backup, create dvd, direct print.... Choose playback
3. Option pops up on your computer.. Select "Take No Action"
4. Go into My Computer and open the E: or Everio_HDD
5. >>For movies- Select SD-Video - Folder PRG002 or PRG001 are where your movie files is located
Drag and drop .MOD files to your desktop **.MOI files are indexes of the .MOD files and will not convert **

>>For Pictures- Select DCIM - Folder 101JVCSO or 100JVCSO - Drag and Drop to desktop - NO FILE CONVERSION NECESSARY

6. Change the file extension to .MPG

** If you find yourself haveing issues changing the file extension, open my computer... select tools... go to folder options.... uncheck "Hide extension for known file types", check it back when your finished if you have kids.. I do for my computer.***

**You are simply creating copies of your files when you drag and drop you movies and pics***

No changing of file extensions is necessary if just saving to computer and you have the software.... but file extension change will allow you to view back movies with Windows Media Player.

Hope this helps

I hv lost the cd which comes with jvc hard disk camcorder gz-mg130e/ek i cannot find it on the net ..where shall i find it??

The software that comes in the box with the camcorder is a Cyberlink Bundle of Power Producer, Pwer Director and Poxwer Cinema... Power Cinema allows you view your DVD's while the other 2 allows for editing and production of you movie title and backing up and browsing your titles Pics and movies..... Unfortunately you cant download this software anyware on the net for free. On the Cyberlink.com you can download a free 30 day trial to the software but would eventually have to purchase a new copy.

There is an alternate way to access you mivies in the meantime... by changing the the file extension to .mpg after you drag and drop your files off you computer to you desktop or selected folder.

Steps:

These step will allow you to view back you movies using Windows Media Player until you get your software.
