Pictures appearing black- olympus FE 170

Hi My camera was working fine a few weeks ago, but when I went to use it a few days ago i noticed a problem. I press the shutter button and normally the picture that I have just taken would show up on my lcd screen for a couple of seconds, but now the lcd works fine except for when I take a picture- Instead of showing an image of the picture I just took it appears black for a couple of seconds instead. When I try to view my pictures on my camera or on my computer the new ones all appear black, but my previous pictures from a few weeks ago are still viewable. I have tried changing the batteries and tried using different memory cards hoping that was the problem but neither solved the problem. Please advise! thanks!

No, my camera does not have a lens cover to detach. There is no grinding noise. Thanks for the suggestions though, but no luck!

I do have a reset button on my camera in the menu and I have reset the camera but the problem is still not solved :o(

    Same problem, it's so frustrating.

I've tried taking photos on every different setting there is, factory reset, memory card format, adjusting image quality.

I tried it all, but crazily enough, the camera will still record video and that's fine, the picture is clear as.

I can see through the LCD screen with no problems, but all my pictures are black!

No - I do not have a lens cover

You checked the obvious, lens cover? (sorry had to ask) any grinding noises when you take a picture or focus\zoom?

I think there may be a hardware problem.
look for a possibly a hardware manual or a way to reset the camera to factory.
