I was recently trying to program a Universal Remote for my VCR and it the VCR went into some kind of safe mode. I have tried to unplug, turn on/off, and tried to opperate w/ the origonal remote and i am getting the same "SAFE" message on the display of the VCR. If you can let me know how to fix this problem please let me know. Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you soon. Thank you

Hello Mark352,
What model of VCR do you have? is it a GE
In the mean time try this:
Unplug it from the wall for about a minute and then plug it in again. If this does not work, hold the VCR button down for 5-8 seconds this works on some units.
Let me know if this works for you.
Thank you,

Just a message to all that have problems with there Logitec remotes. My remote went into something called a "safe mode" when my partner changed the batteries while holding the power button.... I pressed every single button to try and get out of it but nothing seemed to work, (I was getting pretty frusterated, there is nothing in the manual to tell you how to fix this problem), however, I have now learnt that as you replace the batteries you need to have the number 2 button held in as you replace the last battery. This works 100% so if you have any trouble with the "safe mode" then this is what fixes it.
Pro-Tect Plus™ Locking Feature
To disable VCR usage or to protect set timer recordings, the unit can be locked so that the
buttons on the VCR or remote control don’t work.
• To Lock: Press and hold either the remote control’s ON•OFF or VCR button until SAFE
appears in the display to indicate Pro-Tect Plus is active. SAFE also appears if the VCR is
turned on while the feature is activated.
• To Unlock: Press and hold either the remote control’s ON•OFF or VCR button until SAFE
disappears from the front panel display. Unlocking is the only way to use the VCR.
Thank you. I did fix the problem. Reviewed the instruction manual for the Samsung VCR and removed the SAFE reading on the VCR by just holding down the TV-VCR button on the RCA universal remote for several seconds which then released the frozen menu screen. From there I was able to reprogram the TV using the instructions and codes for the RCA universal remote. I still have to reprogram the VCR.
Hello. Have you tried unplugging the power from the VCR for more than 24hrs? This may resolve the "safe-mode" feature going back to "default" and permit regular use after this amount of time elapses. That is kind of unusual for the stepping upon the remote to cause this?
The safe mode on Sanyo VCRs locks out the buttons on the machine. Try using the remote. To turn off the safe mode, look for a button on the remote labeled "Safe."
