My shredder stopped working

Dear FixYa; I have a Fellowes Powershred PS 40. I was shredding some documents and I may have tried too many at once. The shredder stopped and I removed the blockage. Now however the shredder will not work at all. I tried letting it cool but it will not turn on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Chris

I hear about this all the time where I work, unfortunately the motor got overheated and is dead. If the shredder is still under warranty you may want to contact Fellowes and see if there is anything they can do.

The motor is likely still good. There is a reset on top of the motor. An ethical business approach would be to allow access to the reset button from outside the cabinet, but the typical way of business today is to not do so. You can reset the motor ( a little metal lever -- see near the red wires running over the motor in the pic) on top of the motor by opening the unit and pushing down on it. I drilled a hole in the top over the motor to allow resets when needed. My shredder stopped working - eec5a253-2a30-45fa-a30a-b77c5bffecab.jpg

I have a Fellows Powershred ps 60cc and removed the shredder top to empty the shredded documents. When I put it back on, the red light will not go out and it will no longer work. It was working perfectly...

the shredder has a safety switch that closes when the unit is put back on the basket. check under the cutter head for the hole that has the switch and check your basket for the acuator put together so they will line up

Fellowes PowerShred PS 40 with defective switch

Its just seated together with the gear/blades housing ,

make sure you didnt miss one screw, then pry and pull upward its just stuck as the gear housing and blades are pressed in and seat firmly making it seem like its stuck , over time all that paper goo is also binding it up .

Heres a few sites that have gears another that has manuals you may have to call or email as not all parts are listed on website

Need a sensor switch for fellows powershred 220. Won't sense paper.

The top sensors may be bad or even the main board that they are connected to is bad. Try cleaning them with a lightly moistened swab or compressed air. Fellowes will sell you the parts.

Only one-half (righ side) of the shredder works, left side does not shred

Fellowes has a five year warranty on the cutting block of their shredders. (The cutting block is that part of the machine that actually does the shredding of the paper) Take it back to the store where you bought it ans they should either replace the cutting block or exchange the entire machine, but it will take about a week or more, depending on where you are located. At least it shouldn't cost you anything.
