I have recently bought the brother mfc 420 all in one. I installed the drivers, did all the proper installations but the printer keeps coming up with an error message saying that it is unable to initialize. Can someone help me with this problem?

Check brother's web site and see if you can locate the "uninstaller".
This should wipe the old install attempts. Unplug the unit. Down-load the latest Vista driver from the brother website. Follow the install instructions for your driver, they should be printed in the browser. Plug the unit in when instructed to do so. I hope that helps. The uninstaller can work wonders sometimes, but it doesn't always help.
You can get the Vista Drivers for your Printer at http://www.brother-usa.com/downloads/Default.aspx?ProductGroupID=5&ProductID=MFC5460CN You need the Vista drivers and then it should work properly. Hope this helps. Bud
