LG LDF8812 Diswasher - Self Cleaning Filter not cleaning itself

I have had this diswasher less then 9 months. It has worked well until rescently. Now is is leaving food and chalky residue on silveware, plates and glasses. We do not have a water softener, but we don't have very hard water (e.g. showerheads don't clog very fast.)
I removed the brown disk-like (filter?) unit from the inside bottom of this LG 8812 DW. (Approx. 12 screws.) I can hold it in my hand and look through the fabric-like screens on the top. I can see some debris inside. But I can't figure out how to open it to clean it out. There are no more screws to remove and when I try to pry it open with a screwdriver, I leave a mark but no sign of it popping open.
1.) Can anyone post a service manual for this DW? Hopefully, it will have an exploded view of the inside of this thing.
2.) Please advice how to open this "self cleaning" filter.

OK, I can't find a Service Manual for the LG 8812. But I found the service manual for an LDS5811 model. The exploded diagram shows that the "Filter Assembly, Mesh" can seperate from the base so I should be able to clean out the debris under the mesh screens.

I will try to pry it open with a wide putty knife without breaking things.

I am still wanting to get a soft copy of the 8812 Service Manual. Also, where are some places to order parts for the LG dishwashers?

Lower arm does not rotate during wash, holes are clean, could not open/access the filter which appears dirty.

    cw4pilot,

Please post your problem in a new question and list the manufacturer and model number.

    I can help you. Thanks!

I am glad that your motor connection was the only problem found on your DW.

I got my hands on a service manual, but because I did not want to crack the filter assembly, I never did get the two pieces open. I just rinsed it out well and left a white rubber band stuck inside the filter.

    Thanks!

Contact me, [email protected], and I will email the service manual to you. Our lower arm turning problemwas resolved simply by plugging the motor electrical connection back in. it seems that vibration had caused the connection to come apart.

You should not have to use any type of screwdriver to remove filter. The rest of it , leave alone. Take both rotors out and run unit. Both rotors top and bottom should push water through at a good rate. If not, a blockage in water /motor line. I suspect the rotors simply need to be properly cleaned, If not rotating properly it will cause undesolved residue.

My diswasher worked great until last week. It started to clean less and less so I cleaned the filter and checked to see if there was any food in the bottom built up. Now it won't spray water at all...HELP

Had a very similar problem myself with my frigidaire. The spinners, which are removable, were completely clogged with calcium. Soaked them in vinager overnight and then poked each hole/jet individually with a paperclip. Worked like a charm, hope it does the same for you.

Dishes still dirty after wash cycle

It would be real helpful to have you provide the manufacterer and model number to get more specific with solution.
-Have you changes dishwasher soap powder recently? Buy a box of Electrosol or Cascade and see what happens. The ultracheep versions actually have caused cleaning problems, especilly in water-conserving dishwashers.
-Under the lower rack is the sump area with a filter that can be removed, usaully by removing several screws. Pull that filter, rinse is as best you can. Inspect under where the filter was and remove all debris. Watch out for broken glass that is found in most well used diswashers, it is hard to see and sharp! Reasemble the filter.
-If problems continue and if this diswasher is several years old, plan on getting the wash pump motor replaced (or replace the diswasher with a name brand, Energy Star model.) Good Luck!
Please update me with what you found. OK?

Top arm doesn't spin

It is important to know that the upscale LG diswashers alternate between washing the top and bottom rack. So it is normal for some arm to not be turning at certain times.
Also, if this dishwasher is set to half load, bottom only, the top arm will never turn.
