Problem with playing songs in order

I bought a first generation ipod shuffle in October 06. It was fine for a few months, but then I noticed a problem with it. When I play the songs in order it starts to play the song fine, but then after about 3 seconds it suddenly stops and freezes and doesn't play anything. I have tried to restart it, lost count the amount of times I have restored it on the computer and reloaded the songs on to it, but I still have the same problem. There are no corrupt songs on it and I always make sure I disconnect it from the computer before removing. Does anyone have a solution to this? I don't really want to send it away to be repaired. It is fine when I play it in shuffle mode

SOURCE: ipod problem - playing songs in order

sounds like you need a new hard drive, which has a little read-write disk in it that is getting finicky... just to get more use out of it lay it on side or other positions and hear if works ok...if so its diffently Hard drive. you know the sandisks are 2 gigs no moving parts why doesnt somebody put 20 together making 40 gigs and replace the failing Ipods!!??? just pure electronics and no moving parts and much smaller...not like a hard drive. I thought of this over 30 years ago looking at the first plug in video game.

6th gen. nano has shuffle issues. plays same song over and over

The iPod's shuffle feature lets you randomize playback of albums, songs or even your entire music library. You may also find this feature useful if you want to listen to forgotten tracks in your library or discover songs you haven't listened to yet. Disabling the shuffle feature will return playback of a song list to its standard consecutive order. You can enable and disable the shuffle feature at any time.

Navigate to the main menu. Select "Settings." Scroll to the "Shuffle" option. Select "Songs" or "Albums." If you select "Songs," the iPod Classic will shuffle the songs on whatever song list you listen to. If you select "Albums," the iPod Classic will play all songs of an album you select in order and then randomly select another album. Navigate to the playlist or album to which you want to listen. Play a song to initiate the shuffle. b> iPod Nano and iPod Touch Tap the "Songs" icon on your nano home screen. If you are using an iPod Touch, open the "iPod" application. Navigate to the song list, playlist or album you want to play. Tap the "Shuffle" icon at the top of the list to activate the feature.

1st series ipod shuffle...working fine did latest install from itunes and now ipod will sync but won't play...does repeating of green and orange lights. Tried the restore and resetting but still not...

Here's simple steps to cure the problem if your iPod shuffle won't play and does that green-yellow-green-yellow-green-yellow blinking thing:

  1. Plug in iPod shuffle
  2. You'll notice the "Podcasts" play list under your iPod volume.
  3. Delete the "Podcasts" playlist.
  4. ITunes will re-sync
  5. Unmount the iPod Shuffle and everything should be fine.

If that doesn't work try the link below. It's for the iPod Shuffle (1st generation) restore utility.

Hope it helps.

IPod Shuffle problem

Though I do not have a ipod shuffle, it sounds like you set it to run on "sample" which is a setting to play only a few seconds of the song then stop, are you using any other program besides itunes?
