Trying to use the recovery partition on a Medion computer, Windows Vista. It basically shows \windows\system32\winload.exe Then: Partition: 1 Hard Drive: 341842cd [ /noexecute=optin ] After that I can press enter to go forward or escape. The noexecute lets me edit it, but I haven't done so. I tried hitting enter and it will bring to Vista, but then I log in and it blue screens on me (I get various messages for those, most common being 0x4E, 0x23, and 0x50). I can't boot from a CD because that hasn't been working for a while (regardless of what I try to do to fix it) and I don't have a spot for a floppy. I have a feeling I'll have to take it to get it repaired, but I really rather not. Oh, the blue screens happen whenever I try to start up normally and sometimes when I go into safe mode. I've tried to back to a previous restore point, but the program won't come up, even after waiting for over half an hour (granted, sometimes it will just blue screen then, too. Or wait while I try to shut down and blue screen then) Anyone know what I can do?

1. First Load Windows Recovery environment from Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2
2. Open Diskpart and make problematic partition Active
3. Open bcdedit and you should get something like this:

Windows Boot Loader
-------------------
identifier {default}
device unknown <===0xc000000e problem!
path \Windows\system32\winload.exe
description Windows Server 2008 R2
locale en-US
inherit {bootloadersettings}
recoverysequence {e0025536-b36d-11de-aadd-ddc0b5870e2c}
recoveryenabled Yes
osdevice unknown <===0xc000000e problem!
systemroot \Windows
resumeobject {e0025534-b36d-11de-aadd-ddc0b5870e2c}
nx OptOut
hypervisorlaunchtype Auto

4. Enter these commands:

bcdedit /set {Your-OS-Identifier} device partition=X:
bcdedit /set {Your-OS-Identifier} osdevice partition=X:
bcdedit

Where X: - drive letter with your problematic OS in Windows RE. You can find it by opening notepad and pressing save

5. Reboot

if you don't have a copy of the dvd you can try and boot to a recovery partition by tapping f8 @ boot and you should be able to go to 'repair my computer' and hit enter. you can also download the recovery console from the internet and burn it to a cd and run it. good luck

I just want to format my Acer Aspire 4315, Windows Vista. I hold ATL and press F10. it comes out something like windows\system32\winload.exe what should I do to format my laptop. thanks alot

If this doesn't work you don't have a built in recovery partition or its corrupt in which case you need recovery disk or a copy of windows.

To access the recovery partition on your Acer computer for recovery, follow the steps listed below.

1. Power on the computer
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the Alt key and press the F10 key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery.
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click Restore to Factory Default Settings
4. Click OK to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press OK to reboot unit

Note that all data will be lost during this process and your computer will be brought back to it's original factory state and settings.
