I would first back up all the pictures on the card, and then while you have the memory card in the card reader re-format the card and put it back in the camera. If you are still having problems the electrical contacts on the inside on the camera may be dirty. Use some canned air and blast out anything that may be in there.

My camera says card read error. How do I correct the problem?

Hi, card read error can be a faulty card or a problem with your camera. Only way of checking is if you have another card to try in the camera or if you have a card reader that you can put the card into and connect to your pc and see if that is able to read the card if the card is able to be read by the pc then it looks like a camera problem.

While taking pictures my camera all of a sudden froze and said card error, tried putting memory card on computer but it won't read it have tried using recovery programs but it freezes them please help

If your memory card is 4GB or larger, AND if your computer is two or more years old, your computer's card reader might not be able to read the newer 4GB SDHC card. In that case, just purchase an inexpensive USB card reader from WMart, or Amazon (here's an example). Try a different card reader first to see if you can directly copy and paste the pictures from the card onto your hard drive. If the new card reader doesn't see the files, then try recovery software. Here's some freeware to try. If the software still doesn't see the card with the new card reader, you may next need to try the corrupted card procedures described at the bottom of this linked article.

I can take pics & download to pc. I can take movies & watch on camera, can't download. pc reads : error-2002: a bad public movie atom was found in the movie. tried everything, stumpped.

Downloading from a crad reader, such as the pc card port should work. However, if your card is a 4GB or newer SDHC card, and your computer is more than a few years old, its card reader port may not be able to read the SDHC card (these only came out the past few years). In that case, just purchase an inexpensive USB SDHC card reader (should be only a couple dollars on Amazon, see this). You might also need to use recovery software if the card is becoming corrupt (see this). If all the above works, consider using the USB card reader in the future for downloading all your photos and videos. Also consider purchasing a better quality model card reader at a later date, as the one I linked for you is very cheap/low quality, and meant just for you to try to see if that's your problem.

My camera is coming up as read error on screen finepix s1850, and cant find my pictures

Error ? Some additional code?

Could be some SD card problem; try to copy and make one backup of your images in the pc, use a SD card reader to this. Next step, re-format your SD card.

My Sanyo VPC-S880 when turned on, says "Card Error'. What does that mean and how can I rectify that problem? The card is in correctly and because of this "card error" I cannot check the pix that are...

First, ensure that the card has not been locked. There is a small sliding switch on the side of the card that you may have accidentally shifted into the locked position. If so unlock the card and try it in the camera again.
Your next option is to fit the card into a card reader (on you laptop or PC) and see if it is reading any of the data on the card. If it doesn't, and the card is not locked, the card may be defective.

The memory card reader on your computer may not be able to read memory cards over certain capacities (4 GB).
To use your higher capacity memory card without locking up the computer, do one of the following:
  • If you are using the card in a camera or other device, you can attach the device to the computer using a USB or FireWire cable. When connected, most devices appear in Windows as a Removable Disk and can be used in the same way as the card reader.
  • Purchase a USB memory card reading device that plugs into any open USB port. Make sure the USB device is capable of reading SDHC. These devices are fairly inexpensive and can be used in any computer that has a USB port.
If the card reader stops working after using Safely Remove Hardware, reset the cable connections and memory card firmware.

Memory card appears in My Computer but errors occur when writing or reading
If you are having problems reading and writing data to memory cards, use the following troubleshooting tips:
  1. Try a different memory card of the same type in the same slot. If the different memory card works, the card reader is good and the original memory card should be replaced.
  2. Some cards have a read/write security switch on the card. Make sure that switch is set to Write Enabled before attempting to write data to it.
  3. Make sure that the amount of data you attempted to store has not exceeded the capacity of the card.
  4. Inspect the ends of the memory cards for dirt or material closing a hole or spoiling a metal contact. Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and small amounts of isopropyl alcohol. Replace the memory card if necessary.
  5. Make sure the memory card is one of the supported types: CompactFlash (1, 2, and Microdrive), Memory Stick, MultiMedia, Secure Digital, or SmartMedia memory cards.
  6. Make sure the memory card is fully inserted into the slot.
Remove the memory card when the light is not flashing and shine a light into the empty slot. Are any small pins inside bent? Replace the memory card reader or have the computer serviced if a pin is touching another pin. Straighten slightly bent pins while the computer is off using the tip of a mechanical pencil.
  7. If errors persist replace the memory card.

Communication error

If your SD memory card contains more than 1,000 images, the camera will display "Communication Error". Use a card reader (if available) to import your images into the computer, or see about having some CD's made at a photofinishing business.

Try formating the card in the computer. This can be done with windows explorer, just right click on the drive that the card is in, a menu will pop down and click format, then start. Hope this helps.
