Sounds like a bad disk or the floppy drive is going out. The floppy drive is very expensive to replace. It may be that a local dealer has a used floppy drive which they will install at 1/2 price. If you determine that the floppy drive is at fault, take it to authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for repair. This is not something that can be done by the owner. Check Husqvarna Viking website for dealer closest too you. If you are the original owner and you purchased it less than 5 years ago, the drive may be under warranty and you would only pay for the labor.

On my Husqvarna Viking sewing & embroidery machine...when I put in a floppy disc I get the error message: General disc error. What is wrong?

It can't read your disc, it may be damaged or needs to be cleaned. It could also be the wrong disc for the machine. The machine can't recognize it.

I the floppy discs that control my Designer 1 embroidery machine

You can have replacement discs ordered from Husqvarna Viking. Visit an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for them to order the replacement discs. However, you might luck out and they have some already on hand from a scrapped machine or a trade-in. You can find your nearest dealer by visiting the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com and clicking on dealer link down the left side of the page.

Good luck.

Designer I software compatibility

You need the Husqvarna Viking software to turn those file extensions into the SHV format. It's about $400 at your dealer. Their web site does a nice job of showing its features. You get over 100 fonts and alot of designs too. You would open your current designs on a screen and then re-write them to the floppy or stick depending on your model of D1. It then sends the stitch information with the picture of the design to the floppy so your D1 can display the image. (The SHV format)
The VIP and HUS format don't carry the image file for your machine so it say's, "file not found", when you try to open them in your D1.

Disk error

It is just one design of a menu full of designs, is that right? Try re-loading the design from your software and maybe a re-format of the floppy before writing to disk.

Viking D1 error message file not found

You need to use either Organizer or Disk Manager to put designs on the floppy disk. Both of these are Husqvarna programs, not part of your computers operating system. If you copy shv file directly, the machine does not have all of the information that it needs to read the files. If the folder containing your original shv files that you purchased contains additional files, you just need to copy EVERY file within that folder to the floppy disk and it might work. Don't attempt to move individual files to the floppy. You will need them all.

General disk error reading when i insert a disk

Look at the floppy disk using Windows Explorer. You should see something to the effect of menu1, menu2, menu3 menu4 and one or two files with a file extension of something like .mhv or .phv . Inside the menu folders, you will find the .shv files.

Just writing the .vip or .hus to the floppy will not work.

Keep me posted and I'll try to come up with something more.

Probel with Embroidery disc

I am pretty sure you can download Disk 100 free from the Husqvarna Viking website. This has all the embroideries that came free with the machine, plus the alphabets (I think!). You can download this direct to your PC or to a set of floppies, depending on what your Designer needs and what support software you have (or have not) got. If you have no Husqvarna software at all, your PC will not be able to read the floppy. It is in .shv format which PCs are unable to read, being an embroidery machine language only.
If you are trying to open the faulty disk in your Disk Manager software, I always found it worked better if I didn't put the disk in the floppy drive of the computer until after I had already opened Disk Manager.
Hope some of the above is useful to you.

Can't read my floppy

Do you use any powerful sewing magnets? May have scramble something with those....

If not may be sewing machine version of the "mother board" fried. Time to send it in for repair or replacement if that is the cause - they need to replace a tiny little expensive part to give it back its brain.
