I purchased this TV in June 2004. It is showing blue dots on the screen on all video inputs. More appear the more we turn the TV on and off. Also starting in the lower left corner, we are starting to get a blue vertical haize. I called sony and they said I needed a service call. I didn't not think that these types of problems occured with a LCD? Any advice?
Go to the Sony Web support site. If your TV is one of the models listed with the blue dot problem (there are pictures of what the screen looks like with this problem)on the site, Sony is now saying that they will cover the cost of the part and the repair. We did what I'm suggesting and are having our part put in today. Sony decided this was their responsibility for some models of their LCD big screen HD TVs in June of this year. We were contemplating an estimated repair bill of over $1000 until we found out they were taking responsibility for this problem. Good luck, I'm not a truly techy person, but hope I have pointed you in the right direction. We have been living with blue people, etc. for about a year now, feeling angry about spending so much for a TV and it going bad so quickly. Hope this spares you that. You have only so much time to take advantage of this repair offer...

both problems would most likely be fixed with and optical engine replacement. due to cost it may not be economical to repair new purchase may be smarter. part number---A-1606-006-A $668.51plus tax and labor.
Replace Light Engine -Cost of Rebuilt Light Engine If they have any is not Cheap!! Just replaced one for customer in a 55 sony vega, they paid over $5,000.00 for it Repair Bill was $1950.00 Call UED and ask them if they have any rebuilt ones, and cost 1-800-648-6657 .
This is a recurring problem with this model, along with the 50 and 60 inch models. The problem lies in the Optical block needing replacing. I've heard that Sony, depending on the serial number (or manuf. date), will cover the repair, in some cases, so I would certainly check an authorized Sony service center 1st. Good luck
The Blue dots or discolouration you are seeing is due too the Blue LCD screen having cracked from excessive heat. This normally happens when you have a power failure while the Television was on. This obviously because the Blue LCD sits next to the lamp - the main cause of heat. The correct part number on the 60" is A-1086-952-A. It is very, very ,expensive.
Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. Good luck : )
Check the optical block repair at sony's warranty website...
Could be the problem they have been covering it under a recall of sorts. $1250 for the optical block and they are only doing it until the end of the year so don't waste any time
