Lightning Strike The printer and computer took a lightning hit, got the computer working after changing the floppy,RAM,Video card and NIC. Looks like the main board on the printer is toast and all the smoke escaped. I still do not know the condition of the second board, the bulb, or the front board. I'm looking for parts prices to see if I want to fix it or just replace it with a new one. Thanks for the help//////////////

After looking around, found a new 6210 for $170.00 and a reconditioned one for $90.00, so this one just isn't worth the time or money.

    Thanks for the help!

Hi Big Jake, You may want to consider replacing the printer rather than repair, or... Another option would be to scout around for defective 6210 (most have carriage problem) and salvage the parts. You might have better luck/price this way rather than purchasing/replacing boards. Good luck and kind regards.

I was unsuccessful in finding any parts for your printer but I did find some pretty cheap on ebay. It might even be worth looking on there for broken printers for parts. Here is one of them that I found that right now is at $24.99 http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-OFFICEJET-6210-ALL-IN-ONE-PRINT-COPY-SCAN-Q5801A-ABA_W0QQitemZ230165068772QQihZ013QQcategoryZ70824QQcmdZViewItem

Replace the power board for starters, but unfortunately it may not be worth repair if lightning hit the set.

The LG TV was damaged by lightning and I had to replace the flash (memory IC). Now the TV has no software. How do I fix it?

If it was hit by lightning I'm guessing there are more issues with the power board, that is the one that takes the brunt of a lightning strike or power surge

Set was hit by lightning and since then remote does not work, set has been repaired up to that point.Model#42PFL770/F7

A lightning strike will damage a lot of components - the ICs for the remote reception in the set are probably fried

L32HDF11Ta no power power surge from cable input

It may be fatal and if you have homeowner/renter insurance check that out.

If it took a direct hit the set would have been in a thousand pieces so someone who knows sets needs to look inside just to see if toasted or not--this kind of damage in the newer sets can cause so much damage the set may no be worth fixing.

Lightning strike near house. Power surge came through phone line and ethernet cable. lost modem, computer, time machine, house security system, and HP Officejet 6310xi. When printer is connected to power...

From your description the HP printer is damaged beyond repair, when a lightning strike occurs it also went through the power supply affecting the main board and destroying ic's and other parts. It is more than likely the interface cord from the computer to the printer also took a jolt hitting the printer from both sides finishing off any chance of recovery, you would be further ahead replacing the item.

Our hp printer j4680c took a lightning strike. We replaced the power adapter but when we plug it into the printer the light goes out on the adapter. Is there anything else we can try? The unit doesn't...

This sounds as if it has shorted out the main power board inside the printer. Some small TV Repair shops handle out of warranty printer repairs, but will charge considerably for this. Unless your willing to pull it apart it would be more economical to replace the printer. But ask around, someone may be willing to give you a quote, and this should be weighed against the cost of a replacement
Unfortunately with lightning strikes the amount of power surging up the line can destroy many components inside the printer, and not much can be done from the outside.
Sorry it was not the answer your looking for, but lightning is a electrical devices worst enemy!!

Lightning strike

Lightning hits do some nasty damage to electronics.
Alot of times that type of repair is part of an insurance claim. The insurance company requires estimates and will repair them up to the cost of replacement.

If you arent dealing with an insurance claim on this I'd still recommend a professional estimate.
Lightning damage sometimes is confined to the power supply and once repaired could be fine bit in my experience most items that take a nasty hit are a write off.
