Emerson codes: 0463, 0236, 0019, 0180, 0280, 0179, 0154, 0177, 0178, 0038, 0185, 0282
You can find the remote control codes for different brands
of devices from
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/codes-tv.shtml#tv
If none of the codes work then we have two other solutions:
1. Searching For Your Code
If you have tried all of the set-up codes for your brand of equipment ,or your
brand is not listed, and you are still not able to get the unit to respond, try
the following procedure to search for your code.
If you don't find a code that works, the remote will flash four times when you
reach the end of all the codes for this device type.
- PRESS
the button for the device you want to program, (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.),
then RELEASE.
- PRESS
and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
- ENTER 9-9-1 (two blinks on the remote)
- ALTERNATE
slowly between the POWER key and the DEVICE (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.)
button until your device turns off. (On VCR, LD, and CD players use PLAY
instead of POWER)
Make sure that the remote is pointed at your device during the search, You
may have to press this sequences of buttons up to 100 times to search the
entire library of codes.
- When
your device turns OFF, PRESS the SETUP button and RELEASE it to lock in
the code for your device.
2. Learn the buttons from the original
Line up your original remote and the head-to-head before completing the
following steps.
- PRESS
and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice.
- PRESS
9 - 7 - 5, the red LED will flash twice.
- PRESS the
DEVICE key where you wish to learn the function. The next 3 steps must be
completed within 10 seconds.
- PRESS
the button that will receive the learned function, the LED will flash rapidly.
- PRESS
the button on the original remote to be learned.
Now you can repeat steps 3 through 5 to learn other functions onto other keys
or press and hold SETUP until the Cinema's red light flashes twice to lock in
your new feature. (If the red light does not blink twice, stop and repeat steps
through 6).
To test the new feature, press and release the device key in which the new
feature was learned followed by the key on which the feature was learned

I'm having the same problem. I have verified my remote works as I took the remote to my neighbor's house and it worked on his Onkyo, but the remote will not operate my unit. His remote does not operate my Receiver, either. Could my remote reader have gone bad? I've tried unplugging the unit, that doesn't work. Is there a way to 're-boot' a machine. It's not worth sending in for repair since it's so heavy and postage would be very high. The receiver hasn't been used much, so I'm very disappointed given the cost of this unit. Any help is appreciated.
I am having the exact same problem. It's as if the IR remote sensor on the receiver has just stopped working. Has anyone found a way to fix this without sending in for repairs? Based on equivalent replacement cost vs. repair cost, getting it fixed doesn't make sense.
Thanks!
I have the same problem. The remote only works intermittently, usually when the unit is first powered on. I bought a new remote from replacementremotes.com (it is cheesy, but only $20 vs. $100 for an exact replacement). The behavior with that remote is exactly the same as with the original. I was hoping to find a solution on the web, but no luck so far.
The next steps I may try are:
1. Look in the manual for the location of the sensor (note, it is most likely not where the blinking light is) and clean the plastic in front of it.
2. Open the case and see if there is dust in front of the sensor. If so, blow it out with canned air.
3. Try to find and install a replacement sensor, IF it looks easy, and IF I can determine the component number.
Well, let me join the club: exactly the same here! I´m 100% it´s not the remote. I also doubt very much this is a dust matter, as sometimes it starts working again suddenly after 15 min. or so. However when doing fine, it might suddenly drop out! Sometimes it helps to pull the plug from the wall outlet for a while: it might work as a sort of reset. One day this helps (temporarely!!), the other it doesn´t at all. This situation is lasting for about a year now. Not considering having it repaired (if possible at all!?), rather buying something else. For the rest this set is (almost) perfect fot my needs. Really hope someone turns up with help!
I looked at the service manual suggested by the guest poster (thanks). It doesn't have anything specifically about testing the IR sensor, but it does have circuit diagrams and shows how to take the unit apart. The IR sensor appears to be directly connected to a microprocessor chip, although there are two capacitors also connected to it. It seems that the problem could only arise from one of three things: bad sensor, bad capacitors, bad microprocessor chip. I am going to take the unit apart and see if I can figure out which one it is.
I have the same problem. My remote worked fine until last night. I hope someone figures this out.
I did find instructions to reset the remote to the base settings. It didn't help.
