Screen is all black

I just replaced the batteries in my TI-83 calculator. When I turn the calculator on, the screen is completely black. I've tried to lighten the screen by hitting the 2nd button and the arrow keys, but nothing happens. How can I get the screen back to normal?

I've tried adjusting the contrast and nothing happens. My screen is still completelt black. It will turn on and off but that's it.

I had the same problem. I tried adjusting the contrast as usual, but got no results. I checked online, and saw the solution about replacing the backup battery as well. After I did that, I was able to adjust the contrast.

Okay, I tried all these things, but what finally worked for me was holding the down arrow and tapping the 2nd button.

Try replacing both the AAA batteries and the back-up batteries. This should probably fix the problem.

New batteries, turned it on and screen is completely black.

First, try adjusting the contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the down-arrow for a few seconds and see whether the screen lightens.

If that doesn't do it, remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for at least ten seconds. Replace the batteries.

If that doesn't do it, add a comment here and we'll go from there.

Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the down-arrow key until the screen lightens.

If you go too far, repeat the process using the up-arrow instead of the down-arrow.

TI-83 screen is black

The "color" on your screen reset to dark. You can adjust it by pressing "2nd" and the "up" arrow (or "2nd" and "down" arrow) repeatedly.
