I have a GIGABYTE EX58-UD3R. It has a 24 pin

I have a GIGABYTE EX58-UD3R. It has a 24 pin power connector and a 8 pin power connector. Do both of these need to be used? My PSU came with a 24 pin plug but not a 8 pin plug.

Thanks,

Scott

Hey thanks, I appreciate it. I basically purchased all the recommended parts from a tech site. I can't believe the PSU they reccomend for this build does not have the required plug. Here is the link.

I guess they come up with a good system on paper but don't actually build it.

Is it the 8 pin near the I/O Back panel sockets?

If so I think that your CPU power (12V)... is there any marking near it that says "12V"?

Do you have a 4 pin power coming from your PSU... probably yellow & black? That's ur 12V CPU rail..... it will only fit into the 8 pin a certain way as it is keyed.

This is compatible, you can use 2 x 2pin or 2 x 4 pin to deliver this 12V rail.... for confirmation check pages 21 and 22 of your motherboard manual.

NOTE* It is recommended you use 8 pin 12V ATX if you use a CPU that draws 130W or more..... you may experience system stability issues or even fail POST if you only use the 4 pin. An example of this would be any INTEL Extreme CPU.

It is fine to use the 4 pin in the 8 pin slot for.... lets say a Core 2 duo... the 8 pin is mostly for hi power CPU's.

Yes both need to be used. The 8 pin is to power the graphic card slots. Hope this helps.

Reading the link you posted this psu has 2 of the 4 pin plugs instead of the 8 pin. Check your manual as to this works with the 8 pin plug system.

My power supply has a 4 pin connector to the mb,, but my gigabyte mb has 8, which 4 do I use?

The motherboard can support a 2x2 (4 pin) or 4x2 (8-pin) connector. The motherboard employs a foolproof design, as the socket on the motherboard is keyed to prevent you from installing the 2x2 in any position other than the correct one. The image below was extracted from page 24 of the manual.....you plug should be in pins 3,4,7,and 8.

If the user manual isn't giving you locations for those wires then they are not supported or that board is expecting a different type plug to work properly. Check the motherboard manufacturer website for a user manual download.

Connection of audio leads

Here is the link to the Gigabyte site to your specific motherboard. The only place that will have those pin locations is the user manual. Not all motherboards support all chassis designs and at times modification of the connectors is required in order to get the connections. Check the User manual for the actual pin outs.

Leyboard/mouse/cd-rom not working after freshinstall/construction

If you have taken the harddrive out and tryed it in a different mechine then you do have a problem with the hardrive. The problem may not be to serious enough to buy a new one, it could just be the drive has not been formated properly. I suggest formating the drive using a dos disk if you can get hold of one and using this command FORMAT C:/U this is an uncondictional format which completly wipes the drive of all images including ghost images, allso make sure the hardrives jumper settings are correct, if the drive is on its own cable with no other peripheral ensure that it is set to master, the jumpers are found at the back of the drive where the power lead plugs in.
post back if you still have problems. cheers.

The motherboard will not power up when Intel E8500

I know this is dumb to ask, but do you have the 8-pin ATX 12 volt power cable, from your power supply, plugged into the motherboard?
Processor facing the top of the motherboard, the 8-pin header is to the top left edge. Can't be a 4-pin ATX power cable. Needs to be 8-pin.

Do you have revision F3 of your BIOS version?
